Is anyone shooting 30" smokeless .45?
Just curious, got a friend about to dive in (after watching me) and wants to keep his encore. He is looking to get a 30" barrel with the rifling recessed a .5" or so.
Any thoughts or experience?

I would have him contact SMI and ask them what barrel lenght they make or recommend for Encores. Mike

He is going to. I just thought maybe someone on here already went down the similar path.

I talked with Tom Post at Swinglock about this. He has made some 45s with 30" barrels. He said that they are not more accurate but are alot faster. He can push a 300 SST 2900 FPS out of a 30" barrel, but recoil becomes an issue fast. You can use slower powders with the longer barrel, but ignition problems can raise their head as well. If your friend is really wanting an smokeless barrel for an Encore, have him wait a little bit, DaveD has something in the works.
