I have enjoyed looking over this board many times. I just picked up a savage ml laminate stainless . I will use many of your suggestions when I start my load development.I would like some suggestions about rings and bases. I am going. to put a leupold 2.5 -10 vxl 56 mm on it. I am considering talley,s. I contacted them and their suggestion was the detachables. Anyone with experience with these ? I am open to suggestions . Thanks

That is an excellent scope, especially if you have it on hand. Some of our members here have been getting the Classic Extreme from Natchez in the same power for about $280 for an over $900 scope. They seem sold on them. That is a Weaver 30mm tube and 50 and 56mm objective. I have used both Warne, Leupold and Talleys with good results.

Talleys are a good choice, just stick with something steel that has good holding power and you will be off and running. be sure the front base is not riding up on the recoil lug and make sure the screws are not bottoming out in the front. if the lug is higher than the receiver any at all grind a little bevel off the front of the base.....Bill

I used Talley's in the past and while great for recoil the only drawback is if you use Talley bases your stuck using Talley rings. If you have to swap out scopes quickly and you only have one set of Talley rings your switching rings also. Plus the cost of Talley rings have skyrocketed, You could go with Warne or Weaver Grand Slam bases and top those with Leupold QRW rings for half the cost.

I can say I have used Warne and Weaver Grand Slam bases and rings in steel, and I have had no problems at all. Make sure you listen to hillbill about ,mounting the bases. It will save you alot of headache like it did me.
