I have made Savage style breechplugs where I extended the snout, removing the top hot, to get a bigger seal surface at the front end of the breechplug. I also extended the threads to 0.160" from the end of the breechplug to reduce the volume for gas to flow into. I use yellow teflon tape on the entire threaded length to seal it up. I also have it where I machine the seal surface at the front of the breechplug to set the headspace. The primer pocket has a shelf for the Primer to seal on the face instead of the OD. So far, it is working very well for a front sealing 209 breechplug. I am still messing around with Remington 700 ML conversions which have long been out of vogue. There are much better breechplug options available today if starting a new build on a centerfire action.

N2rockets Thanks for the pics. Thought I would toss in my 2-cents worth on the different crowns. For sabot shooting I would prefer the beveled crown for 2-reasons. 1) The bevel produces an even radial compression when loading a tight fitting sabot. 2) There are no protruding lands that can catch onto the sabot that could cause petal shaving or petal stretch. Hey you show me yours and I’ll show mine, chuckle. In case you’re wondering about the pop mark, I use it to index (align) my sabots to the bore.
