There have been enough take offs for .45 etc. replacements that there should be a .50 out there, perhaps at a reasonable price. I have kept all my .50s and will as if I sell my .45/40s etc. I will give the original barrel with it. Hope you find one. An easy switch out unless you are using open sights.

I'll try the for sale site ,but looking at McGowen. I got to my buddies place and we scoped the bore. What I saw was pitting. There was some corrosion forward of the breach plug.

It belongs to my son in law. He says he wants to stay with the .50. I'm OK with that if we can find a take off. I checked with McGowen and it's $500 for .40,45 or .50. That seems to me to be a pretty close to building a new one on a Rem or Savage action. But He's young and never wear it out if he pays $500. It's up to him,and we are in no hurry. I'll pitch in no matter what way he goes. Easy birthday present. Green is a good color.Thanks for the interest

The final chapter. We sent ML2 off to McGowen and got it back. Their work is beautiful.Very accurate. Beatiful fit and finish. Cerrocote They even shipped back in a nice case. Nothing but good words for McGowan. My second experience.

Do you have a carbide vent liner in the breech plug? I get about 500 shots out of my carbide vent liner in my stock 50cal barrel. I have a 45cal McGowen barrel on a Stevens 200 action shoots great too!
