I have a Thompson Center Venture II bolt action rifle in .350 Legend. Only available cartridges locally are the Hornady and Win 180 grain power point. The Wins are slightly more accurate. With little shooting so far maybe 1.5 inch at 100 yards. Not a tach driver but deer adequate at my distances and about what others report with the 350 Legend. The Win bullets are .354, the Hornady .355 it seems. The Hornady cartridges come out clean after shooting, the Wins have soot, carbon streaks down the case to near the base. Never had that with a cernterfire before. I understand the cartridge headspaces off the lip of the top of the case. Issues, thoughts on the carbon? Also unsure of the powders used but both leave quite a dirty bore.
Use the cleaner Hornadys or the slightly more accurate Wins. I would like to get the Hornady flex tips but none are available locally. Thanks

Just an update. Got some of the Hornady 165 grain flex tips. Shot the best of all, right at 1 inch at 100 yards.

I'm not familiar with this caliber but curious as to why you chose this caliber.

In Ohio we can not use bottle necked cartridges like the 30-06 etc. The centerfires must be straight walled like the 45-70 etc. I got the .350 Legend as it has quite low recoil for my daughters. It is based kind of on the .223 case and can work in AR guns but I have a bolt gun.

The 6.5 could call me but then the game warden would also since we cannot use it in Ohio. Maybe that will change some day. Ohio seems to follow Indiana and perhaps we will get more flexible.

I have hunted with the 350 for the last 2 seasons since I live in a straight wall state too. Beats a shot gun that’s for sure .. iv shot 8 does with it and it absolutely hammers them . Most folded up farthest going 40 yards . 7 with the federal non typicals and one with solid copper bear creak 160’s. Not a tack driver with any factory ammo but with the bear creek load shes sub Moa at 100

Good to know. Do you handload the Bear Creeks, if so what components?

Now one deer is not a fair comparison but I found the .350 Legend to be deer adequate but not as quickly effective as a 45-70 or SML.

I built an AR15 in 350 legend with a GLFA upper. Shoots right at MOA. I have not shot any game with it yet.

Not to hijack this thread but couldnt a 35 caliber sml be built to out perform the 350 legend. I know people on this board have built some 35 caliber sml just seems like they dont post much about them.

Perhaps it could but in Ohio .38 is the minimum caliber. Many States require an even larger size than that.

A 357 bullet diameter is legal in Ohio.

It is in a straightwall center fire but in a sml the minimum bore size is .38. One could use some type of sabots with a .357 I suppose.

Have winchester xpr 16 inch, Rock River AR and the new SW 350 Revolver. Found cartridge accurate, cost effective, low recoil, plenty of power and easy to reload.

The rifle has taken about 5 or 6 deer since I got it. I like the rifle but the cartridge is not a 45-70 nor my smokeless MLs. Does not hammer deer like the latter but it is deer adequate.

Yep, that gun is just fine for whitetails. I have plenty of friends that use and kill deer with the 350 Legend. They love it. Especially the low recoil. They say it is about the same as shooting a 30-30. I myself use a 45-70 for straight wall cartridge areas. I have a fondness for that caliber.

The Max is comparable to the Legend. I have a 357 Max Encore rifle and CVA Scout 357 Max pistol. They hammer deer. Both drop them in their tracks or they run around 30 yds or so. Usually you hear them crash.

I picked up a new walnut stocked Winchester XPR in 350 Legend... it has shot everything very well! It is very fond of the Bear Creek Ballistics 160 grn..It is also very fond of the Barnes Vor-TX 170 grn.. 100 yards
