It's getting to be that time of year when folks are hitting the range and preparing for this falls hunting season. Checking for a load or barrel obstruction only takes a couple of minutes and could save limbs or your life. When I load a muzzleloader and plan to use it later, it gets labeled. A double load could ruin your day. Be safe and good luck to all this hunting season!!

As many have mentioned I put a piece of tape over the muzzle. Lets me know it is loaded and maybe some debris protection.

I always put a small round ballon over the barrel after I load it to help me remember it is.

Not good to leave them loaded for extended periods. Bullet can corrode/oxidize to barrel and cause pressure spike.

What is considered an extended period of time? I might go a couple of weeks during the late muzzleloader season.

I feel that as long as the muzzleloader doen't go from hot to cold, like from house to vehicle, then it should be fine.Left mine loaded entire mzl season, but no primer untin in the woods. Then at end of season I fire it off before I do a thorough cleaning.
