Guys, I have been shooting the fury 250 gr. regular crimp nosed star tip bullets, 40 cal. saboted in my Scout conversion with 56 gr of Imr 4198 and His breech plug. I'm just wondering has anyone here used this bullet on deer with a comparable load? I'm likely to get shots out to 225 yds. even further because I hunt fields. Just curious about terminal performance I can expect on a deer at say 200 yds. with my load. I see he has a tipped bullet of the same weight and a thinner jacket but I don't know how that will shoot out of my gun. kip

Kip, The bonded SWs which are virtually identical to the SSTs, except bonded, had significantly better terminal performance than the 200 and 250 SSTs. In my 10ML2/40 cal, I plan to be shooting 250or 275 tipped Furys.

steve I see a fury OT .401 bullet on fury's site too and it comes heavier also. Is that an aluminum tip on that bullet, and I wonder how fast it needs to be pushed at 240 gr. to get good expansion.

I got hundreds of these as Factory Seconds from Midway. Always wondered if they were “Bonded”?

I have used and killed deer with the 250gr. .452" Bonded ShockWaves . They have a blue tip . There is wide variation in the base radius of this bullet that may effect accuracy . I have never heard of the 200gr. .400" ShockWaves being bonded . The Hornady 200gr. .400" SSTs have a better reputation for holding together .... up to a point . That point is reported to be about 2500fps . Above that velocity it is time to break out the Barnes 195gr. bullets and not worry ! Chris

Only the 250 , 452, “bonded shockwaves” are bonded, as to my understanding.

40 cal SST, 2530’/set MV, large 13-pt, score in 140s, Nov 2019, 100 yards, lungs/heart, incidentally, the yellow tipped SWs (200g) do the same. Shot distance - 100 yards.

OK ! looks like velocity for holding together is less than 2500FPS !! I'm every lucky that 195gr Barnes shoot as well as the SSTs at IMR4198 and N120 charge velocities . Chris

Knock on wood. We have used the 200 SSTs to take quite a few deer and never have had a problem but mostly heart lung shots and a few high shoulder. We do have to track up to 50 yards but generally less or not at all. The 195 Barnes are good bullets but not quite as accurate for us but plenty deer accurate. Just what we have seen here. Haven't recovered many bullets with either.

great discussion here, and good pic of that bullet there SW. I have been playing with the 200 gr. yellow tipped harnady's SW sent me and they are very accurate. and also the 250 gr. fury's with the crimped nose, which shoot real good in my gun, and the other day I ordered some barnes 195's to play with also. I never did quite find the right load for the fury 225 gr. crimp nosed bullets in my gun, which seemed to prefer the 250's. all shot with the light blue harvester sabot and wool wad which makes all the difference in my gun.
