I was thinking of getting a Hornady (or other) OAL gauge. Those that have used both the straight and the curved gauge any comments on the two? Mostly for use in bolt or break open actions but could use it in a lever action but less likely. Then I would use the curved. Can I use the curved for both so I would only need one or is there some real disadvantage there? Thoughts and comments appreciated. Years ago I had used carbon soot on the bullet and test fit but that is no longer the way I would do it now. Thanks

I have only used the Hornady straight, but I can understand your thinking that the curved would serve in both actions. I wish I could give you the definitive answer you seek.
