Anyone have any experience with this powder (I got it on a trade)? I have used 748 for years for all of my 223 reloading. Basically for a Ruger Mini-14 that is 2-3 MOA at best. I have a pound on hand and a few hundred empties prepped and ready to load. This is a plinking/defense rifle where 2-3 MOA is more than adequate. I have 55 gr spire point, 65 gr Sierra GK and a small amount of 55 Barnes TTSX. This summer I will probably go thru several hundred rounds and want to make a decent batch. All gunshops are closed and Wally world does not sell 223 anymore. Figured I would burn up this powder on something and save my 748 stockpile for the future. 30-30 loves it too.
Does anyone have any suggested loads for the above bullets? I see in one manual, the max load is 27.7 gr with a 55 gr SP. I am not looking for additional accuracy, just experience using the powder and in what amounts people have found reliable using a semi. Not trying to hot rod loads, just a good standard.
I have been doing some metering tests in my thrower and it meters exceptionally well. Also, where is the best place to buy bulk brass for 556 or 223? I can remove crimps very easily so sources for that kind of brass is OK. I am looking for 1000 or so. I get a lot of satisfaction doing all the prep, it's not about saving a few bucks. I like knowing that all cases are symmetrical no matter what I am loading. It's just fun for me going thru the process.
