Here in Western NYS, not too many cases unless you are in the Rochester or Buffalo. They are in the 100's. South of these, in the rural counties, everyone is in the single digits in terms of cases. Stores are fairly stocked. Produce no issues. Paper products and cleaning supplies GONE. Wife let go Monday, me sent home Monday to work remotely as we are currently essential. Many people in these rural communities are very prepared and self sufficient unless you live in a village.
Hopefully this will not spiral out of control. Hope all is well with everyone.

Doing well here in Indiana....1 confirmed case in the county where I live and 7 in the county where I work...it is fairly rural here and people are listening...it only took 2 trips to the store to realize that the panic buying was here to stay for awhile so I bought a steer and 2 butcher hogs thats going to the processor in 2 weeks...making sure that the my kids and grandkids will not do with out...this coupled with all of the wild game and fish I have will carry us through this with ease...its 50 miles round trip for us to work and the store so we have always been stocked up for the most part and most people in my area are prepared..my wife and I both will be working and I am very thankful for that as so many are being laid off....I can and will keep people contact to a minimum...been checking on our elderly neighbors and so far all is well with them. Take care and share if you can!

Doing well here in a rural county. Not many cases, one death. Fortunately I can go to our farm nearly everyday trying to catch up on things, fuel was 99 cents for quite awhile but now $1.20. Still cheap driving at this time.

I live in a small town and have been anchored at home with another issue. The schools are closed for now. All stores have hanging plastic shields between customers and cashiers. Most people are following the 6ft rule for contact. Most of my income are from pensions and my part time work supplements needed moneys. Boy life has changed for now and like others would like to see normalcy return.

Since retiring, we've been living a bit like hermits out in the Iowa sticks. Our governor never completely shut the state down, but did so to several businesses and all churches, as well as schools.
We very much miss going to a physical church but ours is broadcasting on line. Even at that, we are thankful that our state has not been shut down like several gubernatorial dictatorship states!
Governor Reynolds started opening up counties which have not been hard hit. Certain rules apply, and it's still going to be a tough road for restaurants, barber shops and the like.

Work has been open, a few have been sick. A lot of the hourly workers ( the smart ones ) took a furlough. NJ has one of the most generous unemployment rates, 66% of your pay maxing out at $713. That, plus $600 from the Feds, they make more than at work. It is laughable, when the company calls and asks them to come back, the inevitable response is "When the Governor says it is safe I'll come back". They are making more than they ever had in their lives, so I can't blame them. Unless you make more than 70k you are better off at home, and the hourly workers don't come close, even with overtime. I was coughing and a wheezing/shortness of breath last week, and just got tested this morning. I doubt I have it, or it is very mild...so far. Won't get results for 3-5 days.

I just went back to work for the 1st time in 6 weeks. Doing 3 days in 2 days at home to keep the office population at a minimum yet start a gradual comeback. It's fluid. Wife is furloughed still and like edge said, making almost twice as much per week (take home) as when employeed. We have talked about this several times and there is a good chance they will ask her to come back part time for a while. She is collections/front desk at a dental office. That would be a paycut from her normal schedule and a huge paycut with the crazy fed unemployment windfall. We have decided that since we have banked all the extra money from her unemployment, and received the stimulus check we did not need, she should go back when called. Get off the gov't tit. The extra money she collected for 8-12 weeks will cover any short fall for the next 8-12 weeks and set her apart from her co-workers who will try and milk this until they can't.
Edge, hope you test clean and that your health is good. Kinda explains why you were so ornery last week. LOL. Just messin.

In NJ you can go back part time and still get unemployment, and because the Government loves to give money away I think you still get the full $600 even if you are only out a day or two each week! Don't quote me, but I do not think it is prorated. No incentive to go back full time.

Just to clarify, I have been working full time all along, just remotely. The wife is the one furloughed that could be asked to come back part time. Not sure what that means for state or Fed unemployment for her. My point was that we discussed how many thousands of extra dollars she will have netted from the extra unemployment handout and the $2400 we netted from the stimulus. If she could, she would give up all the future potential extra $$ to go back to work. She did not apply for the extra Fed Unemployment. They tagged it onto the state claim and it just showed up in our account. We did not apply for any stimulus, it just showed up in our account. Right now we are up $6000 net over what we would have netted over this time earning our normal wages. We could afford her going back part time and would feel less guilty about the extra money netted here. Donating it back would probably be less efficient than spending it in the local economy somehow but geeeez, why would some people actually profit from a catastrophy while others can't even afford food? And, feel good about it?
Another part of me keeps thinking this is far from over in terms of economic impact and maybe we would need it. Keep it on hand for 6 months. If things get back to normal, spend it in the economy. Buy some guns, upgrade something around the house for fun, build a cool root cellar into the hill behind the house, hire someone to do something for us? I don't know man. I do know that I know more people who have lost their job doing better than ever sitting at home. That is not good for America. Unsustainable IMO.

I would not want to own commercial office space!
Businesses are figuring out that you can work from home if your job is mainly in front of a computer. Lots of skyscrapers in NYC that will be half empty for a very long time. Manufacturing buildings should be OK, retail was on their back due to Amazon and such, and will be late in recovery.
How soon will people go to theaters, or does Netflix and big screen tv's do them in?
IMO, this mainly hinges on one of these vaccines working out. 40 years after HIV hit, we still do not have a vaccine.
