I've looked at the threads about DIY bedding but think it is probably beyond my competency.
Is this something that can be handled by any gunsmith or are there some experts that are recommended by folks here?

There's plenty of smiths out there that can do it acceptably, but there's a lot of guys that don't have any business accepting money for the work they put out. Ask for references or pictures of work before paying someone to do it.

If the gun has pillars already I think it is a very doable diy project. I am not very mechanically inclined but I did 2 of them after watching a few videos was pretty easy actually.

I never found it difficult. There are a number of decent photos/explanations on several gunsites. The proper bedding materials and release agent and one is good to go. I used to use commercial pillars but of late used threaded hollow steel inserts that I believe are used in lamps. Much cheaper, work well and can be cut to whatever length one needs.

+1 for Richard Franklin's DVD's. Actually, I didn't even go that far and used his instructions here: www.6mmbr.com/pillarbedding.html Even though he and others do not like them, I did use adjustable pillars found here: www.scorehi.com/pillar%20installation.htmHowever, my first project was with the 10MLII which already had pillars so bedding was the only thing done. In total, I have done over a half dozen bedding/pillar jobs which turned out great. All this, starting from never having even seen it being done. Like they say, it ain't rocket science.

You asked for an expert. Alex Sitman is the best in the USA. Nearly every rifle on the USA shooting team and most at Ko2M are done by Alex. I have a 375SML done by Alex. His work is expensive and takes several months.
