Would like to know what are the signs of knowing when to replace the vent liner on the 10 ML II breech plug ?
The reason I ask is because i bought a few used 10 ML II's and not sure how many shots were fired through those vent liners.
How does one know when to replace a vent liner ?
Thanks.

When a .035 torch tip gauge can enter the vent hole most knowledgeable Savage shooters recommend replacing the vent . Others may recommend a different measurement . Chris

Thanks mrbuck.
Why would a smaller opening in the vent liner be better than a larger one.
Doesn't a larger opening provide a larger flame to reach and ignite the powder more easily ?

I'm not MRbuck but I have a couple of questions for you concerning orifice opening. The orifice allows pressure travel both ways so what do you think a larger opening will do to returning bore pressure? If orifice is permitted to enlarge bigger than powder grain size allowing powder into the flame channel to create an ignition in front of primer, what do you think the pressure from this would do?

Oh, I see !
So .035 would be the largest/safest opening that should be used.
Anything larger and you're playing with fire ! Pardon the PUN !!

A clean vs dirty vs recessed Breechplug makes a large difference as to orifice sizing, IMO.

You got it. Not disagreeing or trying to contradict anyone else but my vent has gone to .036" without any repercussions. At this point definitely a change is implemented. Little pun or humor I always welcome. Ed
