Three questions. What is the twist rate of a ULA, model 20, .50 caliber muzzleloader? What powder charge/bullet is suggested? Anyone have the idea of the cost of one along with a Zeiss Conquest scope, 3x9? thanks

I am not sure of the twist rate of the barrel ( I believe it is slower than the Savage 1 in 24" twist ) however N110 is the recommended powder with 250 grain Parker Bal. Ext. bullets . I have also tried 4759 with 250gr. Parkers with good results . With 35.0 grains of N110 . , the Parker 250 grain Bal. Ext . in a MMP short sabot and a Fed. 209a primer the rifle produces 2200f.p.s. at the muzzle . I usually get under 1" groups ... sometimes 3 touching with ... a Leupold 2.5-8 scope at 100yrds . Finding a load for the Barnes 250gr. Tipped bullet is still in progress . I am not sure if Mr. Forbes is still making the rifle . Chris

ULAs had a twist of 1-32.
N110 upto about 41gr with bullets upto 250gr. The 451 225gr Barnes XPB was/is very popular. SR4759 for heavier bullets usually. Around 42-43gr of 4759 and a 275gr BE was very popular in the ULAs. Good for around 2250fps. Ive talked to a few people that had good luck with 4227. No ignition issues due to a more efficient plug design.
Mine takes CCI primers. Its a good idea to see which fits yours. Tolerances are very very tight and the bolt wont close with the wrong primer.
Very hard to put a price on a rifle and scope that are no longer made. I would not even consider less than $1300 for mine

thanks for the information. The fellow wants $775, it also has two spare breech plugs. Considering it But I already have more SMLs than I need, unsure if it would offer me anything more than my modified Savages or modified Rem 700ml.

Thats a great price unless it was abused. They are a joy to carry. Barrels were Douglas Prem XX grade. Plugs last for ages. They seal on the rim of the primer. Not the nose or sides. Rear sealing style plug too. Bolts are made from 4340, not 4140. The stock weighs just over a pound. Action can easily support a 1.20" OD barrel if you ever wanted to get a different barrel.
Standard NULA, ready to hunt weighs in around 7lbs.

Thanks for the help. It is clean, got the whole package for $745 so pleased. He had a blued Rem 700ml, converted to a SML with a nice Rem wood stock. Unsure of the barrel and smith for about $500 but the ULA was a better deal I thought. Also an Encore too. This was not bought or offered on this site, it was bought locally.
