conicals without lube

Good day all,
This will turn into a question so please give me a minute.
I have been muzzle loading deer for a long time. (30 plus years) I have 2 Hawkens with Green Mountain barrels made for round balls and 1 made for shooting conicals. As time goes on the guns were getting heavy to carry. The eyes dont see the open sights as well so it was time to make a switch.
I bought a CVA Wolf and mounted a good scope on it. I still like pure lead so bought some of those PR bullet extreme elites. The .40 caliber 260 grainers with a sabot for 50 caliber. With 90 or 100 grains of loose 777 they shoot wonderfully.
But of course I had other inventory from PR bullets that I have from years ago. I have 125 of the 450 grain semi spitzer ultimate 1. Be a shame not to use them so I went out one day with the intention of seeing how they shoot. Here what happened.
I did some shooting and because I left the lube at home I shot them dry. They shot wonderful, again with 90-100 grains of loose 777. FYI I follow the advice of running a spit patch down the barrel after every shot , then rolling it over and running the dry side down. Probably shot 10-12 times. All went well. The next day I returned with lube and started all over again. All else being the same I lubed several and would have been lucky to get them on a paper plate at 70 yards. Really???
Can anyone share information with me about shooting conicals dry. FYI, my last three shots of the day were at 110 yards. 2 of the bullets hit side by side with no paper in between. The 3rd bullet hit about 1 1/2 inches below the first two.
FYI. I reload modern rifle and shoot about 200-600 rounds a year. Im familiar with how to shoot a gun.
Your comments or humor would be appreciated.
