I am trying to build a .45 smokeless on a xp action. I have Mcgowen barrel and a breech plug from the guy in pa. Someone had a post on makin the primer holders(not the correct word I am sure)out of rifle brass. I had a copy but have misplaced it. Does anybody remember or have access to same? THANKS Jess

I would use 45 acp as the modules and believe the brass trim length will be somewhere around .400” with the plug you are using. I guess that is assuming you have the second generation plug that doesn’t have the internal stem. Has the barrel already been fit for this plug? There are a lot better options at this point in the game.

yes the barrel has already been fitted with the plug. I was going to use .308 brass because of availability to me and the fact is originally a machine gun case and sure have a thicker web. Thanks Jess

I used that plug made by Pete from PA Machine in a couple of my early builds and it works. I found the web of the cases vary a lot using 45 acp brass and you might get 20 or 30 out of a hundred that are dead nuts. I bought a 100 308 win. Lapua brass and got 63 cases that were the same. Then I trimmed the inner stem to fit the case snug on closing the bolt. I used those guns for a few years shooting sabots without any problems. I was shooting the 200 gr. Hornady sst and the 195 gr. barnes using 66 gr. of VV-N120 powder getting 3000 fps. When I started shooting sabotless my 70 gr. charge of H4198 and a 275 gr.be bullet I started to get a little leakage.
