Deer rifle might be a stretch but it’s used for everything, including the rare times I hunt where a cf can be used for deer. I have a fully accuratized 6PPC, 12 twist, on a shorter stock, Sav110 (10 wasn’t out yet), Shilen barrel, SSS comp trigger. Using a 75NBT/B&L 4200 6x24, it shoots 5-shot groups in the high 2’s. Very temp insensitive using H322. I use it for everything. It’s great on varmints. 74 Bergers are as accurate, just not quite as flat shooting. Hard to find a bullet with better terminal performance than a 74 Berger, even if it’s a target round. Can even say the same for the 64 & 68. I’m extremely aware that a 6BR seems like a much better choice, I had reasons to go with the 6PPC.

sw: Now that is indeed an accurate rifle. We should all be so lucky to have one in our lifetime like that.

Remington 700 BDL 7mm mag. 700 308, and if I'm not trying to reach out past 100 yards, Ruger model 96 44 magnum lever action. I am looking at a T/C pro hunter and looking at the 7mm 08.

I am really partial to Winchester M70 Featherweights for hunting. Several in different calibers are near MOA. But my top three for accuracy
Remington 700 SPS in 7mm-08. Older one with ribbed trigger. I have tried several handholds in it, and just one factory ammo (Barnes) and all shot sub MOA. Two good hand loads ones shoot near 1/2 MOA.
Remington 700 Heavy Barrel 22-250. Older one (20+ years). Still shots sub MOA at 200/ 300 yards.
Remington 700 SPS Varmint Rifle (Cabelas Special) in 308. Purchased it spring of last year on sale. Came with black synthetic stock, which I never used. Planned to tear it down and use action to build 6.5 Creedmore for long range work. But decided to shoot 308 a bit before tearing it down. Dropped it into an old Fajean stock I had picked up for $100 and shot it . With handholds it was shooting sub moa at 300 yards, but it would put 4 to six rounds into the same 1 inch square, then I would have one 2 - 3 inches left. Then back to 1 inch square. Trigger was inconsistent. Once every 5 - 10 shots trigger pull was noticeably harder. Put a trigger gauge on it and those odd shots were 1.5 lb heavier trigger pull. Cleaning lubing trigger did not help. Put a timney trigger in it and problem solved. On calm days it will hold 5 hots in one in square at 300 yards. 1/2 MOA. The farthest I had shot is 300 yards. Joined a club with 1000 yard range. Worked up dope, boxed my scope, and went to the long range orientation, shooting qualifier using the 308. Got a mostly calm day. First shot at 384 cold barrel rang the steel. Second shot 634 yards held windward edge of steel another impact. Third shot was 911 yards on full size ipsc target. Held 3/4 mil into the wind, missed just over right shoulder. Next shot I held full mil into the wind, impacted target. Passed my test. Rifle is not quite in factory configuration, but less than $600 into rifle, stock and trigger and I reached out to 1000 yards.. Needless to say I'm not tearing this one down to make 6.5 creedmore. Its staying the way it is.

I have liked Savage rifles for a long time. But, I bought a .308 a year ago model 10, and I noticed the trigger guard, the bottom of the magazine and the strip of metal in the stock opening for the magazine are all now plastic. Also the rear action screw which used to be in the open, can only be accessed by moving a spring loaded button off to the side. I am very disappointed in the cheapening of the Savage rifle. My Sav .243 classic has all steel components. The Accutrigger is good, although I regret that it has the leaf safety in the middle of it, which I seem to remember is to cover liability because the trigger is adjustable.

Top 3 factory. Well hereabouts CF rifles not permitted for deer, This a shotgun or ML only area here in eastern Virginia. The only CF rifle I have is a CZ in 17 rem. So it's my "factory" MLs.
1. Savage "build" gun. Well bought a MLII with damaged barrel (guess what happened) and was gifted a friends MLII 50 cal take off SS barrel so have a somewhat factory MLII. It shoots moa if I do my job but I've done the typical, lap bore, bed and load development. It shoots .458 bullets in BCR sabots great and now using 4198. win 209 in new hex head type plug with Lehigh vent.
2. Rem 700 ML with original 45 barrel but upgraded with boltnose and savage plug. Yeah a bit away from factory but I had to do that. It shoots 40X200 SST in HSB at moa or better.
3. All the rest of my SML are Brux barreled. Do have some "traditional" type ML but haven't shot them since 2007. Best of that lot is a Cabelas Traditional Hawken in 50 cal with a 60 twist and it's a great shooter with PRB using pillow ticking and home cast soft lead .490 ball. On top 85 to 110 grains of FF black powder.
So I only have possibly no factory deer rifles other than the Hawken smoker. That is OK as the ones I use are all great shooters. 10
