I am in the process of a smokeless long range build now. But its going to be a heavy gun like most of them are. My next project before next hunting sesson will be a brush gun. Walking, stalking and occasional deer drive. Still would like it to be capable of long range and sabotless loads but lighter. Is there such a thing? Any advice appreciated! Would need someone to build it for me also.

What would you like you walk around muzzleloader to weigh before scope and afterwards?

I guess I didnt have a certain weight in mind? Been carrying a 14 pounder around now. How light can they be built and still handle some recoil?

You should be able to get a one put together on a 700 action scoped around 10lbs depending on barrel length, fluting, stock material etc. I've built numerous ones on 700ML actions with 25" fluted barrels at it just under the 10 lb mark. You may be able to go lighter on a break over in an Encore and gain a little barrel length based on what I've seen, I'll let others comment on that option since I've not built one of those.

Just keep in mind the lighter the rifle the more recoil you have to absorb-- carried far enough you can build something not fun to shoot. I've weighted my rifle till it tips the beam at around 12 lbs. and with a 250 gr. bullet at 2600 it's not bad at all-- at 10.5 lbs. I felt it was a bit on the mean side.

That is a very nice rig Dave. This is an excellent candidate for the OP's requirement.

That is what I was thinking also Steve. And it will give others an idea as to what the Scout's weight is loaded and ready to go. I have been shooting it more then my long guns.

Both the Scout, and the Hunter are tack drivers out to 300 yards if the shooter does his part. For the money and the finished set up they are the best set up for getting your feet wet in this sport.

I'm sure you've posted it somewhere and I hope this goes to the op's question, what ignition system are you using in that Scout??

Any one know where I can get the original Breech plug wrench for a Savage 10ML-2. It has four teeth. Thanks
