I got my hands on a Leica 2000B laser rangefinder late last week, after making the decision between Leica and Sig Kilo 2200MR purely based on current sale price. Yesterday morning I had a little free time to try it out from my driveway. First was a 36” walk through door on a distant barn. Leica says 1513, 1513, 1513; google earth 1513.6 excellent! Moving closer a ~ 3’ shrub on a ditch line; Leica 716, google 715. A larger bush on a surface ditch Leica 550, google 550. I didn’t have any furry targets available so I move to smaller objuects which took a couple attempts to steady myself enough to get a strike. I was able to hit a telephone pole repeatedly at 765 and 625 both confirmed accurate on google earth. Then there was a piece of field tile covering a steel fence post out in the middle of a field. It took a half dozen attempts to get two good reading but both were 350yds and google showed 351 so call me impressed! Overall I think this rangefinder will suit me just fine for shooting steel and paper to any reasonable distance. I am hoping that I can locate an animal to further test the real world capabilities of the Leica 2000b.

One other advantage is that the Leica will read off of snow, something to do with beam width think. It's pretty much a deal breaker for a varmint hunter if it won't read when the white stuff falls. Perhaps all the newer lasers will but the early models could really frustrate you.

I found an achilles heel today. 96% humidity and fog with less than 1/2 mile visibility, it will give me readings on hard objects up to 200yds but any farther and it gives a false reading of 43yds. I wouldn’t be taking long shots on a day with such poor visibility but thought I would report my findings anyhow. Hopefully we get some snow soon and I’ll see how it does under those conditions.

Don't feel bad, most of them have trouble in those conditions.

I have also found that is difficult conditions to get good readings. Usually I cannot see far enough in those conditions to cause me trouble anyways.

483 to the pine on the right. Picked up a sycamore @ 607 a little earlier. Pretty impressed with the Sig in these conditions.

Thanks Dave, now you’ve got me wanting to pick up a 2200 and test side by side. Hard to know if your conditions were exactly the same as mine but look darn close. We got a solid covering of snow today and I could hit all my marks out past 1000yds again so time will tell. I really need to drive over by a dairy and hit up some cows for fleshy targets.

I purchased the Sig Kilo 2000 last year. Every time I use it I am amazed at what it picks up and the speed in which it does it. I read the 2200 is even better.
