Are they accurate and which apps are the best or most accurate?

I'm curious, are you using it to aid navigation or a firing solution? For firing solutions my AB app will pull altitude but I use temp/pressure/humidity since temp and pressure have the largest effect.

Wouldn't an altimeter app just be using GPS information unless you attached a barometer to it?

If you carry either, I would pull it from your Kestrel (which calculates from it air pressure) or your GPS (which is satellite like AB and actually fixes location).
