Have a question in regards to the 80 gr. Soft Point bullets I am starting to see pop up for the .243. My wife just took her hunter safety course and is looking to get into hunting. While I would prefer the premium Barnes or Honrady monolithic bullets being a resident of NY has put me in a bit of a pickle. I would have to order them and have them shipped into a dealer then pay a small fee to pick them up. I could however hope to get lucky and find them in stock but it seems everybody wants them. I hunted one year with the rifle using 100 gr. Winchester Power Points and found out that they are not a close range bullet took a buck at 35 yards and while it did its job I did not like the fact that is basically exploded on impact. Looking for a viable 0-100 yard bullet.

I'd try to reload them yourself. If you don't have a reloading kit Lee makes a decent starter kit that would get you going for around $100.

The 80 gr SPs are a Varmint Bullet. Beikirch's in East Rochester carries Hornady and Runnings has a good selection in .243 for deer. I just picked up some Sierra 100 gr Gamekings from there. They also have Nosler Partitions.

Or buy loaded ammo that uses this bullet. Will never let you down.

I kinda go lost in the posts . You looking for a deer bullet or a paper puncher ? I always use a 85 gr speer in the 243 for deer and have killed big mule deer from 50 yards to 350. and a 75 gr game king for coyotes. Paper puncher a Match king is the ticket. In the 6mm rem I Use a 80 gr Barnes tts it puts the deer down a bit farther then my 243 it is a lot faster. For coyote , prairie dogs , and paper I use 55 gr Nosler ballistic tips. there again there very fast, very fast. All out standing in my 3 243's and the 6mm...

Looking for a 100 yd. deer bullet. That is commercially loaded. I have limited availability on the ammunition I want. I'll have to get back up to Beichirks.

Can't go wrong with 80 GMX, 85 TTSX or and Nosler PT. Any other 100 gr bullet would be great for most angles on small medium whitetails. Guy at camp has piled up a few dozen with the 85 gr Game king the past 4-5 yrs with great results and no losses. 90%+ were does 150 lbs or less. The monos and partitions almost cannot be stopped in a deer so you will get 2 leakers. Great deer cartridge that's easy to place your shots.

I made the switch to mono bullets several years ago, with Barnes being my first experience. Later, other mfrs followed suit with similar products. I now use either Barnes or Hornady mono bullets.
I have harvested many deer with my 30.06 and 5.56 using these bullets. My wife uses 80 gr mono's in her .243 Howa and they have proven to be accurate and very effective on game.
In my MSR I use a Hornady LE round in 5.56 70 grain GMX for deer. Accurate and lethal.
I also use the Barnes mono in my .44 Super Redhawk for deer hunting.
I have heard and seen comments that these bullet types are not accurate or effective. I believe most of these folks do not have first hand experience.
I'm committed to this type of bullet for most of my hunting applications.
I THOUGHT THE AMMO RESTRICTIONS FOR SHIPMENT TO NY CUSTOMERS WAS SUSPENDED

Never heard of talk regarding lifting restrictions here. Just went 1 hr away to a Cabelas for a few things you can't get in Walmart or order on line. Nice to be able to reload for almost any need.

I just purchased a LEE reloading kit so I will begin to reload the brass I have with the Barnes 80 TTSX. As for the restrictions the only thing that was suspended was the requirement for the background check for ammunition purchases. The state was banking on using the FBI system and they said no way.

So internet sales is not available to individuals, all sales have to go thru FFL?

All ammo sales must be done face to face. Walmart now makes you show drivers licence. The omish don't like it.

Yes, we can order loaded ammunition via internet but it has to goto a FFL dealer and most will charge you minimum $10 just to receive and transfer.
