I invested in the HOG Saddle and a manfrotto 055 tripod or two😊 after 7mmfreak's advice in another thread. Haven't even shot it yet but I can tell you that I've been selling myself short thinking bipods were the best way to get a solid rest in the field. If you are serious or even thinking about stretching out your rifle or SML next year I think the HOG Saddle is a very wise investment. I found my tripods used on eBay and practically stole them with just a little corrosion which will be gone when the paint goes on. Paired with a new spotter and phoneskope I can finally shoot some distance and get good info back.

Kind of overkill for a .22?

Very cool wondered what the name of that style of rest was been looking for one.
Myers, are you planning on getting your shop back up and running?

Do I even want to know what that set you back? Dave, the cost wasn't that bad... the HOG Saddle rubs $310 which is a lot of money but not overkill considering you are buying a very well engineered and executed product. They do sell a pig saddle which is stamped steel, holds a wider forend, and is less than half the price of the HOG. The manfrottos range from pricey to crazy depending where you price them at. I picked mine up for $28 and $55 with shipping that brought the pair to a total of $99.36 😁 Then there is the head for the tripod which again is up to you what you want to spend. I bought a Sirui 40-x for the HOG and after seeing how incredibly smooth it was I bought the 10-x for my spotter. Those were around $150 and $50. The 40-x is rated to hold 77lbs and the 10x was somewhere in the 30's I believe, plenty of grip. I'll post up some range results when the Canadian wind finally breaks.

I will buy the machines again for my own use but not gonna get overloaded again. Clocks seem to run faster every day and there just isn't enough time. Luke knows he is building a rifle for me but when he gets the package Saturday he will learn of some other projects he's been contracted to take care of. Let's just say he's gonna become a shilen smith whether he's ready or not. I have no doubt that Luke will do a great job as would the other respectable builders on this board. Unfortunately he knows that I'm never in a hurry for my own stuff so maybe 2018?

Sorry to hear that Cole, it's nice having a lot of builders to choose from when someone gets ready to build. Hopefully everything else is working out for you! Sounds like Luke will be busy!
