Well todya was the culmination of my IA deer hunt. Yes I still have tomorrow to go, but today was sweet. Need to explain first. I have been real quite lately about certain things, but I finally got tired of hearing about 400,500 yrds shot, about how fast acertain gun shoot some bullets, and about how great certain bullets are. So lets get down to business. I told Dave on the first day of the hunt since I had a chance to shoot some does at 600 yrds and did not really wanted to do it then, that if the opportunity presented itself again I would take the shot. Well today it did. Around 4:30 I had about four does come out to my left at the end of the field. I range them with my range finder and they were at 605 so I took my Caldwell Magnum Field Pod, set it up, actually had to raise it up so I could shoot out the window. Got that done, and when I sat down on the chair I could not reach the butt of the so I sat on the arm of the chair and was able to put the stock to my shoulder. Turn the CDS dial to 600 yrds, side focus to 600 yrds, put the cross hairs on it, got as steady as I could and pull the trigger, well the rest is history. NO I did not have a shooting bench, with a rear bag,and mechanical front rest that adjust elevation and windage, like some use to take this long shot on deer. Not big one, but what made it so sweet is that it was done without all the mechanical contraptions. Yes the Field pod help but you still have to get behind the gun and move it up down or side ways by hand. The load was the same as the last time and the the bullet was a 302 BOMB. Any way here it is, and I'm thrill. Oh yes I have a witness is CVADAVE.

Awesome shooting Carlos! Nothing like picking out a little one to raise the level of difficulty. That thing is so tiny it makes me think you imported it from NC!

Thanks for the great comments, and Luke I believe that sneaked on the plane with me on the way down here. I just needed to prove a point to myself, and put everything in perspective for everyone else on this board, everywhere else. Any one of you guys can make this shot, you are all superb shooters, all you have to do is practice and get rid of all those bench rest divises, and practice with real world hunting stuff. Don't need a special gun, or bullet. Just practice that is all. One more thing, get a good scope, and will highly recommend Leupold CDS system. Again thanks to all all you.

Carlos,
Looks like you have everything dialed in. Takes a very good shooter to pull that shot off. Impressed
How 'bout them bombs !!!!

Awesome shot, no walking the shot in? No walking the shot in. I knew what the gun was capable of since I shot it that far at home, and the VX6 with CDS was set up to match.

Here is a pic of the shooting lane we had, or Carlos had, I always told him I had room to shoot that 200 to 300 yards was avg. Little buddy with a BIG GUN. Had a great time, and learned a lot from him, Thanks for being able to make it to Iowa. N Next time, can I be able to shoot past 130 yards at a deer? Dave

Awesome shot. When they are that far away you should verify that they are in the same State, or at least the same management zone so you know that your tag is good there, the season is open etc.

Carlos was shooting straight 3031, and it went off every time, I was shooting a Duplex load of 10/70, 4759/3031 out of the Scout and my 45 Mcgowen barrel.

Looks cold. Did you boost with Clays? Omega I did not have to use a booster as you know. Been using 3031 for quite a while now, and with the ignition system I have is not problem. Dave did use a booster, but only to increase the speed nothing else. His gun would have gone bang with just a single charge of 3031. Yes, it was real cold.
