Hello everyone. I have been a member of this board for a while, sitting back and taking in information. I have a stainless laminate Savage ML and I love to shoot it. The barrel is tight and it will shoot 1 inch groups with various loads. I am getting the inch to build or have built a .45. I like the idea of shooting sabotless, and faster accurate loads. I want say more accurate because my Savage ML is a real shooter. I will post some pics later.
My question is, for those of you that have made all of the mistakes and are wiser for it, what would course would you suggest I take in building a bolt action SML? I like the looks of the laminate stocks, and the thumbhole grip. I would also prefer stainless over blued.
Thanks for your input and Roll tide Roll.

You can convert your MLII to a 45 with a barrel swap. Contact Luke at smokelessmz.com.

I second what 45omega said...give Luke a shout.
Buy a Savage barrel wrench swap it all out yourself in short order. You could buy a laminate TH stock for your Savage, open up the barrel channel a little bit to fit your barrel contour and you are set. You'll have more time into your opening up the channel on your new thumbhole stock, than you will on changing your barrel out and setting the head spacing.

Just bought a stainless ML II with a (somewhat cheesy) camo plastic stock. May be the perfect candidate for a barrel swap. Compared to my laminate ML II, the plastic stock gun seems a little shorter and the nut on the barrel is smaller.
Do all ML II carry the same Boyd's stock?
Thanks

Thanks If the barrel nut is shorter on the plastic stocked MLII, it probably has a large shank barrel. Before buying a good stock, measure the distance between the action screw holes. Seems like Savage changed that hole spacing. Then make sure the stock you are about to buy has that same hole spacing. i.e., 4 5/16" is what Boyd's measurements given for the 10MLII stocks. The 10MLII "Short" has a measurement of 4.27" given for center-center of action screws. P.S. You would get more responses asking this question in the Savage/Smokeless area.

have smokeless muzzleloader inc. put a douglass barrel on a h and r action in .45 cal in 1/20 twist. then shoot paperpatched 450 grain bullets in it over a 60 thousands wad and 100 to 120 grains of powder. if you not fimiliar with paperpatched bullets in can help you. it isnt rocket science and very very reliable and accurate. their a dozens of aftermarket stock choises for the h and r action. i had them build me a 50 cal 1/32 twist and my son took a deer with it at 225 yards off hand 2 years ago. i have a old weaver rebuilt 9 power television wide view scope on it. does it ever shoot and consistantly accurate. smokeless muzzle loader inc, on the internet.
