Is the factory Savage ML-II a large shank or small shank barrel

Mine was a small shank, but there may be a mixture. The original 10ML was a large shank IIRC.

Initially I thought they were small shanks but late in production and near the end of production and with a different action spacing as I recall they went to the large shank. I do not know the serial numbers, rossman may know.

Small shank barrel will measure 1.055 in front of nut and nut width .875
Large shank will measure 1.120 and barrel nut width.625

Usually the nuts will be different on a large shank compared to a small shank, There use to be a step on the early large shank so that the large shank barrel contour match the small shank and would still fit in the stock designed for the small shank. That kinda disappeared so it is always best to measure to confirm.

Thanks so very much that clears that up my model 12 is a small shank the barrel nut is 7/8" I am still waiting a reply from the person that has the barrel.
