Female Yodel !!!!
They just could not resist it today.
I got up this morning the sun was out and the wind calm.
WOW I did not have anything I had to do ,other then the normal junk, mow, water, clean the shop, you know junk you should be doing . NOT!
Not today.
It take longer to eat then it does to get my coyote stuff in the truck.
First stop was our north of town lands, I have not called it in many months.
I walked west out to the first Wind row about a 1/4 mile, and slipped over the edge. Set up and hit the call, "Female Yodel" and then shortly in to a male challenge. BAM a dog starts running in he was a long way off and it took 10 minutes to get close.
I could see his progress, I tried a rabbit call and he stopped cold I jumped back to the Yodel and he put his head back down and started running in again.
I Checked the wind report it was going to shift to the south east and right on queue it did ,right straight at him. He stopped at what I thought was 250 yards and set down. He refused to move . I have the 6mm zeroed at 200 so I put it between his eyes and let her fly. HUM it had to be right on 200 yards. In the scope I saw hind feet fly by, cool Dog down. We had a light frost at home when I left so I had a little extra on ,for warmth but NOW, I had to do a clothing adjustment in the field. Then went to get the dog.
Like I said it had to be right on 200 yards I put the 55 grainer "Right between his eyes".
I did a few more sets that where blanks.
They where Wheat fields and Agg , Nothing.
It looked like I needed short grass and a coulee.
I got to the Teton River and just south there is a little strip of state land that I have never called. It was going to be a cross wind call and I took the GPS with me. It is right next to this sign.
I set up an a high ridge just sitting in short grass and called.
Female, then challenge, a little dying puppy. I soon see a set of ears sticking over a ridge way down wind. I played the Yodel and over he came, very nearly into my sent. He looked uneasy. I could only see the head and chest. Gota take the shot. There again I thought 250/300 yards.
Wrong again...
Shot another between the eyes .But hey a dead coyote is a dead coyote.
What a wonderful way to spend a day off not working at home
