Since I started shooting a 700ml with a short action, I have grown to love short actions. I'd like to pick up another rifle in a short action and been thinking about the 300 wsm and curious if you gain or loose with a short action 300 win mag?

my 2 brother n laws have browning semiautomatic 300wsm they love them. the only problem they have is finding brass you can get Norma or laupua but you are going to pay for it dearly. they have been looking for Winchester for about 8-10 months and can't find any. the one good thing is with a bolt action you know where your brass is most of the time.

So your saying no go on 300 wsm? If that is the case, what caliber in a SA would be a great elk/long range caliber?

I have 300wsm and it is a killing machine. I am shooting 180 grain accubonds handloads at 3050 fps . So far 4 coyotes and 2 deer. Accubond leaves a quarter size hole in the yotes at 300 yards. Brass is pretty tough to find, but I usually buy cheap ammo for the brass when I needed more

300wsm is a lot more efficient that the win mag. Similar velocities with quite a bit less powder.

I have a Winchester coyote model 300 WSM, as with most of us on the board I have done some improvements and a lot of load development. I have taken several caribou at just over 500 yards and 2 elk at less than 100 yards. I often use it when calling coyotes at night just because the 150 Grain spitzer blows funny looking holes in them.

You couldn't pry my .300 wsm from my hands like others said finding brass is a pain. I've got around 100 pieces like to have that much more for hard times ha.
