wipe that excitement off your face rambler...
I did a quick test today to check out a few things.
#1 does my new mylabradar work
#2 can I still pull a trigger
#3 how short of a barrel can we go on a 45 cal smokeless muzzleloader without dumping all of our velocity
So this is what I came up with in a no BS 30min dash. I took McFacked out to the back door of my barn and shot under the awning since it was raining cats and dogs. The old turd started as a 25" savage plug vixen and ended as a 13" snubby. During shooting some of the readings spiked, but I stuck to the plan of one shot each length and kept going. This was a borrowed half hour that I will catch heck for more than once. Already got reamed by my wife, evidently it was my turn to cook.....
load was 70gr h4198, 230gr bullet, .060 veggie wad, one had seating, federal 209a, junk leaking savage plug.
first I fired a fouler, then armed the radar
shot 1- 25"--2815 fps
shot 2- 24"--2770 fps
shot 3- 23"--2752 fps
shot 4- 22"--2574 fps (large amounts of sparks thrown)
shot 5- 21"--2678 fps
shot 6- 20"--2704 fps
shot 7-19"--2596 fps
shot 8- 18"--2596 fps
shot 9-17"--2594 fps
shot 10-16"--2435 fps
shot 11-15"--2453 fps
shot 12-14"--2408 fps
shot 13-13"--2249 fps (muzzle flash only comparable to a heavy dose of bluedot at dusk )
shot 14-13"--2177 fps
shot 15-13"--2280 fps (no veggie wad)
shot 16-13" 2169 fps (250gr sst)
The radar worked well and is definitely the most handy chronograph for muzzleloading use IMO. Does a guy that shoots 15 rounds a year need one? NO! But I bought one anyways!
Given the circumstances: No scope, no rest, no sights, no target....... I still managed to shoot my best group of the year!
I think my next rifle will be a SBM-
