I sent this barrel away to Cole to be shortened and converted to smokeless he informed me he has shipped it back to me. Members with your vast experience what would be a good load to start with and what would be a maximum load? I shot my Encore conversion the other day using 10/4759 48/H-4198 would this be an acceptable load. I watch a video where it was said 55 grains of 4198 I really don't have a need for speed. Just want a load with enough energy to kill a Deer out to 200 yards using a 250 grain bullet. Thanks Lou

Did you check the barrel for smoothness before doing the conversion? My brother has one we shoot smokeless with for my nephew, middle of his barrel feels like steel wool. Still shoots great, but it's there.

The barrel was pristine before I sent it I tried a .452 bullet in the barrel and it wouldn't go so I smooth sized it till it went down the barrel with some resistence and when it got to about 6" it became harder to seat so it should keep a bullet from moving off the powder I may have a range report Monday If the weather stays nice. Well that's two down I still have an Encore build waiting for stock and fore end and my Remington 700/Brux should be done soon. That's it for awhile. Now stocking up on powder and bullets

Well I shot the rifle yesterday took awhile to get on paper at 100 Finally did I was shooting 50 Grains of IMR-4831 with 240 grain Hornady pistol bullets The groups were not that impressive I would get 2 touching and then a flyer I am sure the barrel will shoot but I have to have some thing done about that horrific trigger feels like 10 pounds it's so hard it's almost impossible to remain on the target. The barrel is smooth as silk bullet went down the barrel with the same pressure from muzzle to breach I have to find some one locally to do a trigger job then I feel it will drive tacks. I had one fellow who offered to do it but then said he didn't have an FFL license so he bowed out it seems he bowed out due to some new law this goof in the white house and his executive orders? If you vote for Clinton you can kiss the rights you have now goodbye Lou

If you vote for Clinton you can kiss the rights you have now goodbye Lou Something you can try till you get it modified is a treatment I do to the CVA muzzleloader I have. Run boiling water in your trigger mechanism make sure metal gets good and hot. Once you do soak it in REM Oil. Do this several times with hot water and REM Oil. Let it dry with the REM Oil and then wipe down. I know someone who did this treatment and the trigger was 3lbs lighter according to his scale. I did this in my boys Slufoot CVA Optima Elite conversion and it helps allot. We couldn't adjust the triggers on our M-16 in military and this was the next best thing.

I was told to take a piece of cloth and put between the hammer to avoid hammer striking the firing pin the take and put pressure on the hammer as you dry fire it do this numerous times and it will lighten the trigger. I watched a video on U-tube and he showed how to do a trigger job, I am not very good at doing things like this. The frame is brand new so I doubt if there is any gunk in the frame. I know it's not me even thought I have been away from shooting for three years I shot my Encore conversion the frame has a very light trigger and I had three touching at 100 yards. It is the trigger I'm sure I appreciate your suggestion. Thanks Lou

Beware....its very easy to screw up a trigger job on a H&R!!It has to be taken apart and polished up with some material removed to lighten the trigger pull up. If you are not comfortable doing it yourself seek someone out who has done it. I screwed 2 of them up. There is no amount of Rem oil that will fix their horrible triggers. Been there and done that on several H&Rs. You can go to Greybeards and inquire. There are several guys over there that can tune your trigger the right way for you. What ever you do don't introduce water into a H&R receiver as you will regret it.

Tar12 thanks for the heads up I have no intention to use water in my H&R I have had several people offer to do it but most said they were leery due to regulations in sending a frame to a non FFL dealer. I live in Delaware and have yet found a gunsmith who will do the job. I have no problem with the cost of this service. I saw a video on U-tube where it shows how to do it even then I will not attempt it. A long time ago I had two Encore trigger jobs done they have the best triggers but I lost contact with the guy that did them.

It is a very fine line when lightening up a H&R trigger. Take to much or polish to much and your looking for parts. It is a tedious process that can yield excellent results if done properly.

If there are any FFL dealers who would do this for me I will gladly pay and send to you. Also I bought a buffalo classic frame and the guy said it was perfect when I got it it wouldn't stay cocked He did refund $40.00 as I bought the frame and barrel from him.On another sight a fellow sent me all the new parts to repair it but as of this date I haven't found any one who can do this one. I am no gun guru I just shoot them and some times not that good LOL

There are a lot of guys on Greybeards that are more than capable of doing it for you.

An FFL dealer offered to do it for me for the cost of shipping. When I took it all apart the trigger and trigger stop piece was broke off I really can't figure out how such a brake could happen. I guess I will never know. Well any way all is well A member on Greybeards sight who is an FFL dealer offered to repair it for me so now that gives ma another frame I can see where this is heading another frame now I need a barrel LOL
