I have pretty much stopped using Barnes after a few replies from them concerning unwillingness to do what other vendors already do. Sucks because they are awesome bullets but terrible consistency and quality control. Does anyone remember a few years back when Barnes was sold to the same group that now owns Remington? This same question was brought up about if the quality would remain the same and Barnes assured everyone it would?

I wasn't on this board then but it makes sense given Remington isn't the same quality rifle now either.

My reply to this post is not intended to hijack the thread. I've shot many of the Barnes 195 in my H&R Slufoot conversion. I recently started shooting the Barnes 40 cal (10mm) TAC-XP 155 gr. bullet in the smooth blue Harvester. This is a tac driver in my conversion with 52 gr. of 4198.

hey, guys, I am keeping a list of people to contact when barnes gets new bullets in. If you want to send me an e-mail, i'll add your name to the list. I have no firm information, but at least you'll know when I know anyway.

Do you know the speed you are getting with that load? Thanks I haven't had the opportunity to chrono this yet. When I do, I will be sure to post the results. You can buy the Barnes 40 cal at a reasonable price in a package of 40 bullets. These 40 cal (10 mm) are available in three weights, but I have only shot the 155 grain. I've never had success with the Barnes sabots that are supplied with their MZ bullets. The smooth Blue Harvester sabot was an almost instant success. I do knurl the Barnes with a file, as I believe this aids in bullet to sabot grip.

Like substandardshooter said, I'll buy up the Barnes that don't work with sabots and let them rip out of a 40cal.

Guys, Sorry I have not posted yet about speaking to Barnes at the SCI convention. I actually had three Barnes reps with me and brought up this post on my iPhone and explained they had a serious customer service issue with these bullets. They seemed to understand the issue but I'm not sure there is going to be much in the way of resolution with these bullets. I was standing there and didn't get a refund offer so take that for what it is worth........ They did assure me that they were working the problem and the next bullets produced would be fine. When I looked at their display at the convention I'll just say that MZ bullets were a very small piece of the pie and the .45 bullets were represented by a single 12 pack hanging on the wall. Not a big part of the business. Sorry for the negative news but maybe the next run will be back to normal.

Don Sure hope they get them fixed but pretty much the same interest level I received from them last summer. It caused me to switch to all Nosler bullets in my centerfires as well, TSX or TTSX can't do anything a partition or accubond can't do.

We are a small group in their customer base,,, seems they are aware of the issue and hopefully will address it in the future. They didn't shoot any better in an Encore Pro Hunter .45 with weighed BH 209 at 84 grains, 4" groups at a 100 yards. Then shot a group out of my old stock and went under an inch. I would think that pretty well covers their customer base. Not really, Their ML bullets are a small portion of their sales, and I'd bet that most of their ML sales are to people that may shoot their ML less in 10 years than most of us will shoot in a busy week,,, as long as they hit near the bullseye part of the time they are happy,,,, it stinks that there is a problem but we are a small picky group of shooters,,, hard to please and probably pretty low on the ladder of corperate concerns

Glad I only shoot them full formed in the 40's and don't have to worry about it like so many others. That's a shame they had this bad run on a bullet that so many depend on for a hunting bullet and we are definitely a little fish in their big ocean of overall sales.
Thanks to the gents that were willing to sell me their stash of them, appreciate it.

I know that this is an old post, but these "bad" 195 bullets are still out there. I got a package of them in May from Graf & son. Make sure you check the radius before you purchase if possible.

I just got 3 24 packs from midway and the lot # is 7231807 I think it is and they have a slight concave base but there is a radius around the edge and the bullet measures .3999 the entire length of the contact surface. I'm gonna try them with the light blue sabots and a wool wad underneath.

If the radius gets too large, 0.050", it can cause issues also. 0.030-0.040 is optimal per Savage Shooter.
