I decided I'm more of a .50 guy than a .45 guy. I had MGM build me a .50 barrel for my Pro Hunter. Awesome barrel and great company (by the way he mentioned he's building some smokeless barrels now? Don't know if anyone has talked to him recently on that or not.) Anyway, the barrel is a .50 Green Mtn 1-28 twist tapped for a standard T/C breech plug. It's tapered to the factory TC ML barrel taper.
The .45 barrel I had before was a Shilen built by MGM and tapped for the same breech plug and the same taper. I was using a PA Pete's vent liner breech plug and a TC plug converted by Luke to a bushing plug and it worked well.
I built the barrel with the intention of shooting BH209, and it does a fine job. Thinking about playing with some light smokeless loads of H4198 and maybe some Re7. Also, I don't want to blow myself up. I'm thinking about throwing the bushing plug in the barrel and going to town, but figured I'd run it by everyone for a quick safety check.
What do you all think?

Find out which 50 barrel they used and send a message or call green mountain. They do make some 50's out of 4140 and they say it's fine for smokeless, but I've seen some others that are bp only. The one 50 I can think of they sell as a round blank is 35" and 1-24 twist that's safe for smokeless. Don't know about their others

It's stainless and 1-28 twist. I can call green mountain and see what they say. I was of the impression most green mountain barrels were pretty much but i could be wrong about that. I thought it was as much the breech plug as anything else.

I believe deertroy ordered a 50 McGowen for a smokeless build you could look through his post to see and ask him how he ordered his barrel.
