OK so I am thinking about an upgrade from the tupperware stock... So tell me about the Accu Stock. Advantages and disadvantages if there any. And if it is available with the ramrod holder..and about what to expect to pay for it. Thanks Drop

Fred from SSS posted over on Savageshooters that he was told by someone at Savage when they become available as part MSRP might be around $400. Sounds high to me when you can get the Hogue with the full length bedding block molded into the stock for $300 www.getgrip.com/main/overview/overmolded.html

Hopefully Savage will come out with a fair price. IIRC when I checked back in 2003 the MSRP on the factory synthetic was like $100 and the fancier wood and laminate stocks was around $300.
The Hogue overmolded rifle stocks with the full bedding block are pretty neat. They come with a decent recoil pad and the softer rubber coating makes them quiet. Plus they offer them in a ton of colors and camo patterns.

I called Savage today and talked to part's. I was told that they wouldnt be available for 6 to 8 month's. And then not for the MLII. So hmmm Who makes a replacement stock that is at least pillar bedded..and a drop in configuration for the MLII with ramrod capabilities? Thanks Drop

Thanks Drop Your probably not going to find one that is ramrod capable out of the box. However, if you feel adventureous you can cut out a ram rod channel and glue in a retaining spring. Kevin bought a sub $100 bell and carlson from Midway and he said he liked it pretty well.

It is hard to justify that kind of money for a wood stock when you can buy a Bell and Carlson for $99.00 to about $180.00

As far as cheap aftermarket synthetics there are a few.
The B&C Duramaxx is a step up from the factory synthetic. With pillars, almost the same weight (just a ounce or two heavier), decent recoil pad and will accept the heavy barrel on the 10ML (the 10ML has about the same barrel contour as a 10FP). Members here have cut a ramrod channel in this stock. While a step up from the factory IMO the forearm is still not stiff enough to use with a bipod. For the price a good buy.
The B&C Carbelite has no pillars and is not designed to accept the heavy barrel. These are not molded but "hand layed" so heavier then factory.
The B&C Medalist has the aluminum bedding block, set up for a heavy barrel but I do not know if you can add the ramrod channel. I was told the bedding block extends to the front swivel. It only comes in a varmint/tacticle style so it will be heavier (about 3lbs). At one time demand for these stocks by the centerfire guys caused a 4-6 week back-up and retailers were having them drop shipped direct from the factory. If you shop around you can find these for less then $200.
The Ramline stocks I have seen do not have pillars and are setup for sporter barrel contours. They are a heavier plastic.
The Hogue overmolded stocks come with pillars or the bedding block. MSRP on the pillared stock is $169 and the stock with the bedding block is $299 (once out on the street companies like Midway will offer them cheaper). You can order one to accept the heavy barrel. Some of the Savage models are new and should start shipping soon. I have seen these stocks on Remingtons and Winchesters and the AR version and are pretty neat. From what they show of the bedding block it is a "U" shape in the forearm so it may be possible to cut a ramrod channel. Weight wise they are heavier then a factory synthetic at around 2lbs
Choate is starting to get into conventional stocks but currently offer only a LA model for the Savage. Their Ultimate Sniper/Target and Ultimate Varmint while being downright ugly do offer pillar blocks and on the Ultimate Varmint it has a bedding block that extends into the forearm. While they look light they are not, like almost 7lbs for the Sniper and 4lbs for the Varmint. Price wise both are less then $200 (they should pay you to use something that ugly).
There are custom stocks out there from companies like Stockade and if you want to go to the max there is Manners. To get to the weight of the factory synthetic your talking a carbon fiber custom.
Personally if I was to buy a synthetic replacement and weight and cost was the issue the Duramaxx would be my choice. I do like using a bipod so the Medalist comes in but weight goes up so I may wait and see if the Hogue gets cheaper when they hit the market.
