Being semi-retired and having a bum shoulder, I'm thinking of getting a medical exemption which is required to be legal in my state. Cannot afford the four digit wonderful units some are shooting.
I'm seeing a lot of praise and excellent reviews for the Barnett Jackal. One review even said that you better use different bulls eyes when practicing if you don't want to ruin bolts. This X-bow is in my price range. It may not have all the bells and whistles of more expensive bows, but accuracy is my main concern. Anyone here use a Jackal or know anyone who does? Is there anything better in this price range?

You might get a good deal on ebay. If the original owner did not register it the Excalibur bows have lifetime warranties. Recurve models are PROBABLY less prone to problems and you can change a string in the field.

The Jackal seems to be one of the few low end bows that work good. Likely because they are not high performance. Many guys are on the Hunt-Indiana website that use them and rarely a complaint, other than the plastic arrow retention arm. Our local Rural King store has has them at $279 regularly.

I hate Barnett, but this is true. The Jackal and the kids bow($299) both are rather trouble free. This statement is made from comments made to me concerning these. No personal experience. Hard to beat a good, used Excalibur.

I ordered my boy the Barnett Raptor FX from Sportsmans Guide. Buyers Club its $377 but used a $10 coupon and saw they had free shipping. I also took advantage of the SG 4 pay plan. For the money its a decent crossbow. Seems to shoot faster then my Horton Vision 175. I will probably upgrade his scope this summer. Lancaster Archery I believe had them cheaper but that was after I had ordered. If your a bigger guy it might not fit you right though. Bowhunter Superstore usually runs good sales. Keep an eye out there as well.
