This NC buck fell to Henry Ball's old load of ACCURATE ARMS XMP-5744 45.0 gr 300gr Hornady .452 XTP 2,232 FPS 3,290 FPE from my stock Savage MLII. The only mods are the bedding job Henry did many years ago. I sure miss him.
Slug hit him head on in the base of the neck at 35 yards. At the shot both front feet came off the ground and he fell backwards down hill. Never moved an inch once he hit the ground. XTP hollow point held together and was recovered in the pelvis.

Fine Carolina buck . I got to speak to Henry over the phone for several years and was lucky enough to have him invite me to his camp in Pinetown in 2009 . His help getting me going with the Savage MLII was just the best . He was a wonderful gentleman . Chris

That's a very nice NC Buck, congrats! It's good to see another fan of Henry's 5744 / XTP Savage loads. I switched back to using 5744 / 300 gr. XTP's in my HB Savage again this yr. and it performed flawlessly on the 3 deer I was able to take with the combo. Guess this old load can still Git'er Done!

Congratulations on a nice deer. That's the old stem to stern shot. You don't have to spend all day looking for them!
