Scorpyd and I shoot to 100 yds with my Excal Matrix 405. I'm shooting 383'/sec with my 405 and can keep 1 1/2" 3-shot groups @ 100 yds in a hunting configuration. 18" Zombies, Blazers 4 degree offset, AL inserts 26 g) , plastic flat nocks, FOC broadheads(170g). The Southshore SK200 or 300 vanes might be better. I have an HHA Optimizer/Duralyt 2-8 lighted.

That Orion Extreme looks serious! I don't know wether I would want the compound or the trusty recurve? Can you mount mil dot rifle scopes on these or is that the wrong direction? Also any thoughts on th Middleton 375 ss?

I read Bowtech bought Excalibur? Reckon that contributed to the recall on the Matrix 405?

I'm sure the 380 would be all I'd ever need. I just want to make sure I don't spend a grand and regret it.

The 405 isn't much more and I understand the Twilight scope is about the best available?

I agree the 405 is a powerhouse Matrix. The Twilight scope is not great fer the price paid. There are better optics fer same price range

Looks like I can pick just the bow up for $800. I imagine the Zeiss is a good choice of optic?

Ghost 410 as in a Barnett ? Yup but i will keep my opinion on them to myself. There be other better made Brands n models if'en you be going the compound xbow route. Yer starting to hit big funding area. Lets talk about your expections from the Brand n models you may ponder over.

I'm going to be limited to about $900 which will buy the 405. I could just buy the bow and get the scope later. May be the wisest route.

I have both a M380 & a M405. I like the Zeiss XB75 more than any of the other specific crossbow scope. The usage of an HHA Optimizer allows a rifle scope to be used on a crossbow. This might be a consideration. I've not had any problem with my M405. Love it. The faster the crossbow, the flatter the trajectory. Who doesn't want a flatter trajectory? Speed doesn't come w/o a price. Many people believe the M380 or 355 are the best compromise of various factors. I still prefer the 405, as do most but not all who own a 405. I know of one exception, maybe. :-).

I borrowed a Parker Thunderhawk to use some, although I usually shoot a PSE Vendetta XS. I haven't shot crossbows as much as vertical bows. All the scopes I've used on crossbows usually don't agree with me. I must have very poor form and technique. I try to get a good cheek weld in the same location but I have difficulty with sight ins and have flyers often. I will start chronographing when practicing. Not sure if it's all parallax issues or what. I had a Horton 150lb I always shot left with? A buddy bought the xbow and said it shot well for him. I target practice with vertical bows out to 60yrds. I'm not too sure I could hit my Rihnoblock at 50 with this Parker though.

Boy something is not agreeing with you then! I have an Excalibur Matrix 330 and a Ten Point Titan Extreme that is rated at 333fps. Both are so awesome shooting it's hard to believe. Not the speed bows that some are. I would shoot a deer at 40yd, 50yd if ALL the stars aligned. If you hunt woods and/or use a range finder they are both plenty reasonable. My buddy is still shooting a BowTech Strykeforce 405. It runs circles around mine for distance. But, it all depends on what you want. The Excals are hard to beat for simplicity and consistency, but my Ten Point is no slouch. A couple friends have Parkers with no complaints. They all respond well to silencing additions. To each his own on brand, try a few more and see what fits your hands and style best. Good luck.

I got it shooting! The Red Hot scope glares bad and my shooting light has decreased over vertical bow hunting. Broad heads are used and had dirt and target debris in the blade slots. I cleaned them up and my group's are around 2.5" @ 20. This bow isn't bad. I don't think I would buy it over the Wicked ridge I used to shoot though. I plan on buying a Ziess scope for whichever bow I get. I hate all these cheap sopes. They're demoralizing!

I take it the PSE Tac series was a flop? I had high hopes for them. What are some choices for 80-100yrd X-bows? If I wanted the very best accuracy I could get I would use a Recurve. The only recurve I would ever settle for is the Excalibur. If you prefer a compound and all the hassles with maintenance on the long haul,,, Scorpyd would my choice, with Tenpoint close 2nd. I own 5 crossbows and shoot almost daily, 2-380's a Lynx in A-P Snow and a Mad Max in Max1 ,, a 405 in Treestand camo, a cut down 405 to a 355 in Treestand and a 330 in Infinity. All are equally accurate to 50 yards and will shoot inside 3/4" at 50 yards all day in calm conditions. The mega and 405 will show there stuff and both will keep shots inside a 1 1/2" bull at 100 yards in calm conditions. If I could only own one,,,,,it would be a 380! This was my only attempt at shooting a group at 60 yards, I ruined 3 arrows and never tried it again! I say Maintenance on the compound because I have over 500 shots on all three of the heavy hitters, and have never been a bow press,,, that won't happen with any compound, and Scorpyd is the only one I have seen that will shoot as good as any of my recurves, and it has to be spot on tuned to do it,,, not so with the recurve! Even the anemic 330 Matrix proves you never want shoot at the same place twice. This is with 100 grain Slick Trick broadheads, exact same zero as my field tips at 50 yards,,,,

If I get a 380 or 405 i plan on shooting the heaviest bolt that will still group. The problems I've read about all sound like they're so powerful that they're basicly dry firing. My Vendetta XS is shooting a 423gr VAP/slick trick @ 295fps. It shoots through shoulders fairly easily. So I'm guessing most my bolts will have to be excavated lol

I think that a M405 or the likely better Bullpup 400 with 400-450g arrows would be the best combination. I have likely 700 shots thru my M405 with 398.3g arrows. Over 1,000 thru the M380. Might get a bargain on a M405 now. The Bullpup appears to have some advantages. There will be a time and cost difference.

Well i have my 380 Matrix sighted in, i think its going to do to ride the river with. The new models they just came out with i will pass on all of them. That 350gr fps listing they always show is pathetic. They should just say my 380 is actually a real world 355 fps using 425gr arrows. I am fine with the speed as i like to use 425-650gr arrows in my thick woods where 40 yds is a super long shot.

A bow to not rule out is the Bowtech Solution 390. Light, small, super fast, appears to have no limb problems, accurate , low to moderately priced. To me, it's the compound with the most for the least. Other new high performance bows to consider are the Katana and Bulldog 400. The Scorpyd xbows are in a league by themselves. I've never seen one. They have quite a following.

Steve, the 390 does have shim trouble in the limb pockets that continue to break. The Katana is certainly nice but again they are now using the Excal 350gr arrow to rate their fps. With arrows in the 425gr weight it will get about 365. Thats not a bad speed to have n use in shooting & Hunting.
