My son took this nice buck on the opening weekend of muzzleloader in East Tennessee. He was coughing quite a bit, and it was raining so we stayed in the barn. I didn't want to break his heart, but I knew we wouldn't see any deer. To my surprise he sees this nice 8 with the G2 and G3 as only thing visible in the brush. He waited for the buck to present itself at 180 yds and fired. He was using my RemPac with H4198 (60 gr), 200 gr Hornady xtp and blue harvester sabots. I think that this is his 4 or 5 deer with a SML. The others came from a Savage MLII.
Needless to say, I am proud of the way he goes about his time hunting. Never hesitates to go regardless of the conditions and only complains when I make him wait.
Also thanks to all the "experts" who share their knowledge on this board. The amount of information that I have learned here is amazing!
I just ran across an old photo of his first buck. He reminded me that it was with a SML as well. He has really enjoyed the comments. I find him "surfing" through them as we are on the stand.

You can be very poud of that young fellow ! Back in the 60's Winchester had a saying in their advertising " If you hunt with your son , you will never have to hunt for your son ". A day with his Dad he will never forget ! Chris

Congrats on the nice buck... I love to see the kids out hunting... My favorite part of hunting these days.. I had rather take one of my children or someone else than hunt myself. Actually only hunted solo 4-5 times in the last 7-8 years. I also let him dictate a lot. If he is really cold we go warm up, too wet go dry off. I hate to have someone who is miserable.

I updated with an additional photo of his 1st "horned" buck. If I remember correctly, he shot it with a ML-II; 44gr IMR SR 4759 and 300 grain Hornady XTP. Bang. Flop at 85 yds. I have really enjoyed getting him on as many deer as possible through the years and while we don't a massive farm to hunt with huge bucks, we have been very blessed to have an opportunity for a good number of deer. I am looking forward to heading deeper into the mountains with him as he is progressing in his abilities. Truly time I don't take for granted and I pray that he remembers for a long time.

It has been a long 7 months, but he finally got to see his mount. One happy boy and proud father. Thanks Eric Sholar and Real Life Taxidermy.
