Well this was a successful hunt in an unsuccessful way. Even though we didn't harvest anything we had a great time. First day we saw 10 or so deer and I stalked up on three doe mule deer. I spotted then around 1200-1400 yards away and managed to get to 15 yards before they knew what was up. If the mature doe of the bunch wasn't behind some brush I might have pulled the trigger with my Hoyt bow. I was hoping a buck was with them however that didn't happen. The rest of the hunt was spent walking and glassing. Saw a herd of antelope with a decent buck. Lots of grouse and ducks. My buddy had his first unsuccessful stalk on a whitetail doe. This was his first time hunting for anything. Here are a few pictures. These were areas that we tried to spot deer in, which we decided that there are very few deer in this area. Came up on someone's traps and they had two coyotes and a coon, pretty neat. Even though it was unsuccessful, it was successful because we realized that this place doesn't hold many deer and we will look for a new area to hunt mule deer.

Crazy how open and vast the terrain out there is. Thanks for the pics. It is crazy Dave, my buddy and I talked about the wagon train days and how the heck could they even made it out there, they had to be super tough! Very very open out there.

Could've swore I made a post in this thread earlier. Guess I'm getting old.
