I like the idea of having a portable shooting bench for target shooting and possibly groundhog hunting over a long field. What are your opinions on what is commercially available. Looking for a rock solid bench to put my two piece rest on. Thanks, Kyle

I googled it (as. I am sure you did) and nothing that came up appealed to me....looking at the home made plans and finished product has me thinking. The one I liked the most looked a lot like the one Bill was using but his had an adjustable seat also. I am pretty handy...(I think)lol. Thinking of building one similar to that. They touted that leveling was simple with the 3leg design. But I don't find much out there commercially made. I seen a really nice adjustable Snap-On seat today at Sams. With no wheels. Thinking that I am limited to 200 yds at my range.....and a portable bench would open some distance. Watching with interest Drop

my bench is something I just stuck together one day, kind of a play as you go thing. I have another that's similar but will be more solid when finished. the thing I like about my bench is it has 4 legs and when you sit on it any shaking disappears. I have no money in it but then I had all the materials on hand. I also plan to put wheels on this next one so it will be easy to move..

I bought one of these: www.amazon.com/Caldwell-252552-Stable-Table/dp/B00162PRPY for the Friendship shoot and for taking to the club. It is STABLE and solid. I made my own modification for an elbow rest, which worked out just fine.
Here's a build your own, I know of a couple shooters who have built this and really like it:

Looks like a nice bench. The fact he doesn't have a price on his website makes me think it's real expensive.

It sounds like total price depends on zip code for shipping

It sounds like total price depends on zip code for shipping $285 to my door for my zip code. Or $75 for the brackets alone. He told me that he just has UPS package his tables, so they won't get beat up in shipping....there's a bit of expense there.

I'm liking the bracket idea ...but concerned for movement. The leg slips in and is held by a set screw. But if you used a coupler on the end of the pipe and cut it at an15* or18* angle then weld it to a 4"x4" plate you would have legs that screw in place maybe more solid. But still trying to figure out hoe to incorporate a seat on the back angled leg. That would help with solidifying the bench with that added weight I'm thinking There will be several variations show up down in Kentucky in August we should all share ideas along the way and build some primo benches. In my experience with the ones I have built if the legs don't screw in it will wobble like crazy, and even if they screw in they need a positive stop for the legs to tighten against. And yes Drop is right If you can incorporate a 4th leg into the seat it really makes a big difference in stability when you put your weight on it..

If I could weld, I saw a place here in MN that welds threaded pipe couplers at a 15* angle to a 4x4 plate and screw them to a board and sell them for a couple hundred dollars. It looks really easy to do, but since I can't weld I haven't done it yet. If anyone could, you could probably sell just the brackets for about half the cost and still make a lot of money.

Picked up a couple of sheets of oak veneer plywood yesterday 3/4". Got to get some 1/4 inch 4×4 plate sheared..and decide how to do the legs. Trying to keep them simple. And portable. * I got a pm from the guy selling them for 285 tyd asking if there was any interest in buying just the hardware for$175 tyd with a full sized pattern for the top DIY. If this should work out....how much interest is there? Shipping is cost prohibitive. However some could show up at the Kentucky challenge in August Drop

I read all the reviews for the Herters brand at Cabelas. It got 4.8 stars with 33 reviews. Only complaint that brought it down was the weight. 46lbs. To me it seems to have a lot of joints....that could spell movement Drop I looked at this one yesterday at Cabelas because it will be on sale Saturday morning for 5 hours at $99. It was decent and I like the way it folds up but not solid enough for me. Scott

I do not like the seat being directly behind the gun, it feels unnatural to me. The bench seemed well constructed but I don't think I would like it.
