I'm scratching my head right now... Would you any of you Remington ML builders feel free to straighten me out... I've assembled a half dozen of these 700ML using the Hunter bolt nose kit and never had a problem.. The one I'm doing now is giving me fits. I got the bolt nose kit in it alright but after assembly I noticed there was considerable wear on the bolt assembly causing it to re-cock very hard.... Didn't want to fight that so I bought a factory new assembly from Brownell's figuring that would fix it... I put the nose on the new assembly and twisted in the firing pin assembly.... Immediately I could see the orientation was different... Normally you can tighten the pin and shroud down and then back it up about a 1/4" to the cocked position.. With the new bolt assembly It has to be turned back about a half turn to be in cocked position... You can see by the pics what I mean..[note distance between shroud, bolt orientation] The black bolt assembly is the new one... It seems to work ok when backed out that much further... The only thing is that I ground the firing pin to fit the old bolt assembly and when backed out only .040 protrudes from the bolt face... Everything seems to be exactly the same on the new vs. the old...That is what's got me scratching my head.. It's got to be something I'm not seeing. I'm hoping for someone to straighten me out and show me the way. Thanks Zen The all stainless bolt is off another rifle shown for comparison.

I ran into this same problem on the last Bolt that I did which was number 5 for me. I ended up facing some material off of the shoulder on the Bolt Shroud so that I could screw the Bolt Shroud 3/8 of a turn past the notch in the Bolt. Do you have access to a Lathe to do this? It is pretty easy if you do. If you want to send me the old Bolt, I can try to polish up the cocking surface to smooth it up for you. I should be able to salvage it for you. Let me know.

I may be able to help with the old bolt. Check to see if the raceway in the bolt body is burred up. If your bolt closes too hard it sometimes rolles the edge of the raceway up causing it to drag. Normally the bolt drags all the way back if this is the problem. If this is the case you can take a small fine file and file across the raceway to clean up the burr. As for the new bolt body being off I see one once in a while like that. I never tried to fix it though.

Thanks guys for responding... I'm thinking to do what lakeplainshunter did...Thank both of you for offering to dress up the old assembly but I think it's beyond dressing up. Somebody in the past already took a file to it and cut out more than they should...Should have looked a little closer when I bought it.The rest of the gun was like new. Thanks Zen

I did as lakeplainshunter suggested..Took .020 off the face of the shroud. It allowed me to make another half revolution... Works greats Thanks Zen

I fixed a similar issue as hunter mentioned. Mine is tight still and I have to add some oomph on occasion with triple 7 primers. Friend of mine had similar issue and he took about .020 out of the primer pocket.
