OK, what excuse is there now for not being able to find .22 LR. My choice round was rem sub sonic hollow points but right now I'd settle for about anything. I still have not seen any on any shelf or at a gun show for years. I looked on a couple of the sport biggy sites and they want 10 cents a round, if they had it. I still got a cache from some years ago, but I'm holding back on shooting cause I want don't want to be without any. How can they sell .22 rifles if ammo is so hard to find? I can reload cast bullet ammo for under 10 cents a round. Anybody know anything?

Fixin to find out as I want some different ammo for my new CZ. Locally a woman got fired from Wal-mart for stashing ammo and taking care of her boyfriend and company. Customer suspected something was amiss and put in the time to video her. lol Youtube has all kinds of Wal-mart ammo stories.Gander Mountain here locally has had .22 ammo pretty consistently so my co-workers are saying.

I've seen it at the local Gander Mountain where they get deliveries on Thursday. I about lost my mind when I showed up and there were a ton of retirees waiting to bum rush the door when it opened. I happened to be there to get something I needed for the field and watched hoarding at it's finest. Infuriating.
I have been buying it at the LGS and the hardware store downtown. Luckily both tend to order CCI Standard Velocity and my CZ Trainer loves the stuff. I have been able to stay on top of about 2500 rounds of that and some FGMM plus about the same in Federal Auto Match for my trainer pistol. That allows me a budget of fifty rounds per week, per weapon, for training in the event I miss a shipment at one of the two stores in any given month.

Cci standard is some good stuff for the money. Shoots nearly as well as match ammo, many times it's price, out of my custom barrels.

At a Southern New York ( Middletown ) gun show this past weekend that featured 350 tables there was one table that had bricks of Aguilla .22 ammo . I didn't ask the price as I'll throw rocks at targets before I shoot Mexican ammo . There was one brick of Remington Thunderbolt ammo on a table and was priced at $65.00 . And that was it . I'm sure that I did not miss much as I was the 10th person in line waiting for the doors to open on the first day of the show . I also have had excellent accuracy with CCI Standard Velocity ammo . I wonder if the CCI Green Tag ammo is just exceptional grouping Standard Velocity lots . Chris

Mike, I voted "spotty", but it is VERY spotty around here in NE Iowa. Bought a rifle from a farm store last year on the condition I could get ammo, since there was none on the shelf. They came up with enough ammo to get me started. Similar story with a local indoor firing range. There may be no ammo on the shelf, but if you pay to shoot, they have ammo for that. Can we blame them for these practices? I do not when everything is in so short supply now, only because of those who are making a second income (govt. aid being the first) from buying up all the ammo, since there is all the time in the world on there hands, doing nothing else!
7mm, I read about old farts' clubs in Tar's neck of the woods who actually have networks informing each other which stores have .22 ammo. They gather at coffee shops early in the mornings, trade info, and then span out to different areas to buy up all the ammo they can get their hands on! I may be old, semi-retired, but that boils my posterior as well as anyone else!

I have nothing against retirees. I intend to be one someday. What I will never be is a selfish hoarder. I recently left half the Varget on the shelf for the next guy against my better judgement. I do the same with rimfire.

Don't knock the Mexican ammo. It's good. Before NYS stopped allowing internet purchases of ammo, I bought several bricks of it in different types. All good. And....made by Mexicans that live in Mexico.
It has a funny smell though. Would rather have a few thousand round of the std vel Aguila than NO rounds of CCI....my preferred round.

There has been a considerable amount showing up in MI and locally. One of the shops gets a new shipment about weekly, along with many different kinds of propellant. Its being advertised enough, I haven't went to buy thinking its a fluke.

the manufacturers are turning out as much or more than they ever did. its just that everyone now buys and stockpiles all they can. Sure there was always the guys with a cache, but now all the guys who were used to stopping on the way to the range for a days supply are now stockpiling. Im not going to use the term "hoarding" because really, WTH is that.. but Nowadays stocking has become a necessity as availability is sporadic at best. I just hope the guys who made a business of trolling the box store ammo counters and reselling on the auction sites for ridiculous profit get whats coming. I still believe in Karma, and you get what you give. I havent shot .22 in quite a while, because I knew I couldnt replace my stock. It was saved and trickled out to the kids I take shooting. But at 10c+ a round, I sure aint buying .22. I have a collection of .small caliber muzzleloader that has kept me shooting, and squirreling. Those kids may just have to learn to take it slow and enjoy a few shots with a frontstuffer pretty soon. Im not set up to reload anything small caliber, and really havent reloaded much centerfire in a while now. My Muzzleloader collection has taken over every niche of my shooting needs.

I have been paying $50/brick for CCI SV and $75/brick for FGMM. This is the average around here. What is rimfire ammo going for where you are?
A year ago I could load .223 Rem cheaper than shooting rimfire but things have calmed down although the new normal is nearly double what it was pre-panic.

I don't see much in local gun shops offered in bricks . Any larger amounts are 300 round type packages . CCI Min Mag HP Troy Landry "Choot 'Em" 300 round bulk pack for $ 35.00 plus tax . Chris

You and squeeze express my feelings exactly. 10 cents a round or more!!!! You gotta be kidding. Somebody is gouging. Who is it? Has the wholesale price has gone up? I know supply and demand. I'll do with out rather than pay 10 cents a round.[

I voted spotty. It is very spotty. And selection is well, this what I got if you don't want it somebody does. Just before Christmas they were putting the pallets out with bricks and lots of 22 rifles. Now 22 scarce. Whenever wife decides to make a run to Richmond I go along and hit about 6 retailers. Haven't seen any 22 in Dick's for 2 years so not even looking there. Very seldom in WW. Mostly a few LGS like Rednex, RW's, Bob Moates or Greentop have most often but not always, probably 30% of time. Stocked up in December with the Christmas push and got 3 bricks of CCI SV and 3 bulk packs of Federal Auto Match AND 2 packs of 200 in 22WMR "Choot em". Groundhogs out now and plan to get some as I have the ammo to hunt. Best to all, 10

Locally, I am not seeing much as the locals snatch it up in stores and sell it at the gunshows for $60-$75 a brick. I shop online and have managed to secure a good enough supply to allow me good shooting for some time. Finding 22 lr on line for $50/500 is pretty easy. I wont pay over $35/500.

And for get about 22shorts. I had to resort to other means just to get a few hundred. These are my preferred option for urban pest removal.
