I shot 3 times this morning in the upper 30's, 45 min. 15 min between shots & i have this lovely 9 1/2" outside to outside group. Used 200gr xtp's lightly knurled, it just didn't like the low amount of the powder charge. It took both hands to load the bullet sabot combo, H4540B into my .45 cal NEF

That is certainly not a sweet spot. With your 35 grain load looking so good need to work between the 25 to 35 area. I know you can figure it out. Go down 2 grains at a time from the 35 load until it opens up too much then up a grain or 2. I like doing load development when I have a new build to wring out. Plenty time with plenty cold to do the development before the groundhogs are walking. Then it's practice time. And what do Jeff friends think of you hijacking their signs, lol? I do the same thing but not to Jeff. 10

Well i figure he don't mind as they were from 8 yrs ago. I picked up about 50 of them for targets. I will work on the powder charges, will bump it up to 28.0. If it never does any better than the 35.0 load i can live with it very well.

What is H4540B? I tried to Google it and got no results? You would not be talking about H-4350?

This morning in the 30's wind coming SE 15-20 mph, 28.0 every thing else the same shot a 3 1/4" os to os group. That shrunk 6 1/ 4" from the 9 1/2" group. So tomorrow i will try 31.0.

I shot this mornin, mid 30's, every thing the same except i had the load at 31.0 gr. 5" group at 75 yds & i was disappointed. I waited 30 min between shots. 1st shot was the lowest 2nd was 3" higher then 3rd was 2" higher. All doing vertical. I waited an hr. then i shot my 1st shot of 35.0 vv110 & marked it. Its been 30 min. so i will go make 2nd shot. Well sad to say it hit 2 3'4" to the right. So my Hit Gold group was a fluke! This isn't going very well, not one of these loads would i hunt with past 35 yds.

What are you using for a rest? I might have missed it somewhere. Try 3 from a kneeling posisition and see if you do better

Just curious. I have had some encores that shot well off of bags or a bipod, then some frame and barrel combos I could never get to shoot well off a rest regardless of any attempts to tighten things up. Those trouble rifles usually shot well offhand though.

What scope? When I first started with my NEF conversion, I was having similar issues, put a lot of time into testing couldn't get it to shoot tight with much of anything. Put a different scope on it and got sub moa groups with 54gr of H4198 and 200gr xtps in a hsb.
Do you have another known reliable scope you can try?

No reason to wait 30min between shots if the temp is in the 30's. I don't wait 30min between shots when its 80 using sabots. You keeping the barrel dirty or cleaning after each shooting session? Clean the carbon out of your breech plug yet?

I can shoot every 15 min. Barrel is dirty/fouled. No i haven't cleaned the breech-plug of carbon, i have shot 34 times with the regular vent liner. I do have 2 new Lehigh vent liners.

My Scope is a Bushnell Elite 1.5x6x42 #4 recticle in it. Yes i have a Pentax 3x9 Gameseeker & a Bushnell Trophy 3x9. I just shot my 2nd time using 52.0 of RL7 & 2nd is cutting 1st hole.

Forget trying the pentax 3X9 seeker on SML rifle. JMO = I tore one up when I had my 1st MLII, of course it is a 50 and I was shooting 300 gr bullets. the Bushnell gets my thumbs up, again JMO. You might also see if it likes a clean barrel. All my 45s like clean, 2 or 3 shot group then a "wet/solvent" patch and 2 dry patches. One even likes a swab of oil patch for the clean barrel and the others like dry. My 50s are divided, one likes clean the other is a dirty girl. And I've been looking for some RL7 or RL10 for 2 years and haven't seen any. Keep us updated on progress. 10

I will then put the other Bushnell on it. I am going to clean it up good. Change to a new vent liner, & shoot 3 shots run patch through it. See how it likes that.
