Does Quick Load differentiate between a muzzle loader load and a cartridge load?Different parameters.I think Quick load is set up for cartridges and these pressures would be different.

I just ordered Quickload for $152, from Neconos.com, which is msrp Have to keep up with the Joshes. I saw a demonstration of it on YouTube and it seemed easy and informative. It even tells you how long your bullet is in the barrel. I think the pressure testing by our members is more accurate for muzzleloaders.

With a .041" bushing, 209 M Primers, full formed MH and APB bullets sized to 2 hands of lading pressure, and powders such as 4198, IMR3031, and IMR4831, the velocities are very similar when comparing Quickloads to my real life data.
If the velocities are similar, the pressures must be fairly close too.

yes I would agree with Gar. I believe that pressures in a normal CF gun spike very high as it engages the throat which we do not have in our guns but the baseline quickload offers is a very valuable tool for load reference in what we do.
the bottom line is this, and im only thinking out loud here, new guys to the sport need to stick to the 50s and 45s until they get their feet very wet in the sml game before jumping into the smaller calibers. I have guys contact me wanting smaller calibers that are new to the sport and my answer is always the same, NO!

WOW Than shooting 70gr. H4198 with a 458 300gr. bullet is really pushing it
Earnhard, WOW Than 70 of H4198 with a .458 300gr bullet is really pushing it. I was told by one of the wise men he would not be comfortable using it but the sabots look fine.? What would a 400gr .458 with 78grs of Benchmark look like Thanks for the info, I must rethink my actions I'm using a 50 cal Savage Marty

I just got the Quickload CD in the mail. Wow, I'm impressed with this program. Now I have to see if I can install it on my work computer so I have something to do all day. I guarantee you will love this program. If anyone has a pressure or load question to try out just let me know.

I'll tell you that I calculated 50.5ft/lbs of recoil with a 16lb rifle so its a boomer!

myers129 thats a lot of recoil, the buster bullet I shoot produces 42lbs of recoil from the bench its punishing, off hand with shooting sticks its stout, but doable.
Thats were a good muzzle brake would shine...I think' never used one.
I'm sure my 10 pound Lott put out 50lbs but that just a guess. Anyway at the time I was a young man full of macho BS so it didn't matter' but shooting should be fun, shooting that kind of boomer IMHO is not fun.

Whoa!! A piggie for sure! I'll PM you, not wanting to steal cowshooters glory! Hey cowhunter, what version does your quickloads say it is? Wondering how many updates he has added. Wish mine had the 700x and 800x listed

Jeff n Edge. I'll get right on these questions when I'm done walking the dogs. I tried some crazy loads with fast powders. It will calculate anything-- even 200k loads. When the program thinks the load is too hot-- like over 60k, it puts a red sign up. If the load is "iffy" it puts a purple sign up. If the load is OK it prints yellow results.

Jeff: I just loaded the CD in my office computer. That is handy that you can load the CD in all your computers. That 125 gr of 4350 load seems just about right. It is only 81,504 psi. Actually, it gets a very stern warning and says never to use that load. It is flagged in red. I need to see if I can get any better estimate. I had to use a .416 Weatherby Magnum cartridge for the calculations. There are many .416 cartridges and that amount of 4350 is dangerous in them all, but you can also create your own wildcat cartridge. You can also get a picture and the exact specifications for any cartridge. My Lazzeroni Warbird is in there.
Edge. This 3.8 version does not have IMR 4759, which surprises me. It has every other powder I've ever heard of, and dozens I haven't heard of.

Phil I think you're a little high. Ok quite a bit haha, if you want to check your numbers vs mine I can screenshot my quickloads and email it to you. Drop me your email in a pm and I'll do that tonight. It took me a long time to figure out how guys were getting there numbers and I had to talk to Earnhardt to be sure I was doing it correctly.

I think you need more info to get a reasonable calculation! If I assume a ML then the compression needs to be about 100%; We need the barrel length; Also if you know the velocity you can fudge the numbers better.
If I use the Weatherby .416 and that bullet I get too much compression too! Change the bullet length to 1.00 and that should bring the compression down around 100% I get around 71kpsi @ 3130 fps with QL.
I can fudge the shot initiation to 500 psi vs 3625 and that shows 65 kpsi @ 3090 fps
These are using a 27 inch barrel.
TGinPA generally gets a higher FPS and a lower PSI on his traces vs QL.

I also fudge to 500psi and get the same pressure. Jeff is using a 32" barrel on this particular rifle, it's blazing fast for sure.

I came up with 64,700 psi at 3100 fps. I hope you have a good shoulder or a good brake. Haha

Now guys, don't make everyone think this program is junk by citing a half-dozen numbers. There are a lot of variables. The default barrel length is 24 inches and I didn't change that cause I was late to the Oregon game. Crap, Oregons guy just dropped a 50 yard pass. I'd like to get some tutoring from anyone who is familiar with Quickload. I think there are some videos on YouTube. I'll take you up on your teaching offer meyers129.

The program is definitely not junk, it's creator must be quite the mastermind. I don't know anyone that could buy quickloads and not think it was worth every penny. It will save the average reloader hundreds of dollars of powder usually lost to experimenting. Like usual, we are asking it to do something it was not intended for.

I'll second that, many cartridge shooters like a full case for most consistency and you can run through all of the powders for pressure, capacity and %burned in seconds.
It doesn't eliminate the loading manuals as they are tested with real test barrels and that is the gold standard!

I've just recently obtained the 3.6 version. Haven't even scratched the surface of the tutorial. Like cowhunter can't find 4759 in the powder listing. But heck I'm not even sure how to relate the info to a MZ bullet and a given powder

Has anyone tried to contact Quickload and see if they will add the powder and ask them if they could do a (page) for ML's..? Jeff.

You can add any powder to quickloads if you have all the info about it. It's very complex stuff and I wouldn't even know where to start collecting reliable data
