Ck the local pawn shops or online auction sites for a used H&r 45/70 u can usually find them pretty reasonable , Cva 45/70 r hard to find on the shelf. In reference to a Ruger #1 that in my book would be a crime. Vk classifieds on graybeard out doors in H&R section i thought i saw one there. www.go2gbo.com/forums/hr-classifieds/wts-45-70-handi-rifle/It'd be cool as heck tho lol

i agree i think a ruger #1 would be awesome but just because all the reloading manuals rate it as the ultimate load i dont think it could handle the t rex loads of a center fire action. , only because of the barrel . i havent seen any barrel builders offering replacement barrels for this . so I belive u would be limited as u r with a break open . Bad Bull's FB series, built on a #1 uses the same load their bolt gun uses, 140gr 4350 with a 275 BE and their contour is not as heavy as mine.

My friend has a Bad Bull, bought in '08. I've personally held it and watched him shoot it. Based on what I've seen any mz built with the parts Luke sells and a Brux barrel is every bit as good if not better. My friend says that Bad Bull is now offering a refitting of the BP, kind of like a recall for 200 bucks. The existing ignition system is kind of a pita but does work. Plus they do some machining to a 275BE that they require to be used.

That's gonna put CVA 45/70 guns at a premium for conversions . Every gun shop I've been in has maybe one apex on the rack and usually it a 50 cal ml . so that's an indication on how popular the CVA is as a center fire ...... Now if u can find one you'll be under $ 1000.00 by the time your done with glass and all, that's the least expensive way .

CVA HAS A RIFLE CALLED THE ELITE STALKER IN45-70 AND A STORE IN MINNESOTA SALES THEM FOR $220.00.I AM THINKING ABOUT PURCHASING ONE AND SENDING IT TO SLUTFOOT FOR THE CONVERSION.NOT THE OPTIMA ELITE,BUT ELITE STALKER.I GOT ONE IN THE 35 WHELEN IN 24" BARREL.SO I FIGURE IF IT WORKS,I WILL HAVE A SML FOR RIGHT AT $400.00I HEARD A LOT OF PRO COMMENTS HOW GOOD SLUTFOOT IS,IF SO, I HAVE A WINNER.

The stalker should be a good conversion. I've thought hard about getting one myself for a back country carry gun. If you get one excited to set how well it shoots.

Didn't even realize CVA had such a thing .....probably cause I'm not a CVA fan but that would make a great entry level gun. I"m just partial to the LMRP set up .

they have the elite stalker in 3 heavy calibers.the 35 whelen, the 444 and the 45-70.i like the way the stock drops at the grip instead of straight back like the apex does.feel like I can hold on to it better.

I'd build a sub caliber #1 if I wanted that style gun, if the funds would permit that, I think that would make an awesome gun and a good looking one too. CVA Apex is on my wish list for someday and is more in my price range.

BrownisDown.....Have you emailed to Slufoot to get his opinion on the stalker and if He has converted any? Where are these being sold for $22O ? Do you they use Bergera barrels as well? I have an Apex conversion and it is hard to beat them!!!
