My son has birthday coming up this spring. I'm looking to by him his first shotgun. I'm leaning towards a 20 gauge semi-auto. I know there are several options, just looking for other experienced opinions on the subject. I've been researching the Franchi Affinity compact for it is half the price of Benelli M2. I'm curious if anyone has any experience with the Franchi.

Anything wrong with a Remington 1100 LT or a 1187? I have had both and no complaints......

I bought my wife a beretta A390 in twenty gauge from wal mart about ten years ago. It came with a remove able extension for the stock and is one of my favorite shotguns. Good patterns with birdshot, turkey loads, and buckshot. It also groups nicely at fifty yards with slugs.

There are other models that are lighter in weight and more reliable. I was raised on Remington shotguns. The price for the new Remington's and my personal experience with the more recent models have left a bad taste in my mouth. I personally don't think they are of the quality they were twenty years ago.

I know this is an older thread, but I picked my son up a stoeger 3020 for Christmas this past year and it's mighty dang good gun. That makes the 4th stoeger semi auto we have and I have never had any issue with them. I have an older model 2000, a 3500, a 3000 and his 3020......I think I paid right around 500 for his gun

Thanks for the info. My buddy has a 3500 that he waterfowls hunts with. I will take a look at the 3020
