And second! Slufoot conversion (thank you again!!), 56 grains H4198 & 200 XTP. Shot the first through the heart and second one stood there looking around out from behind a big oak while I sneaked a reload. Had a 4-5" opening that lined up on its neck. Saw it's head snap back through the scope. They were only 55-60 yards away. We are way down on deer population so we were filling the freezer with button bucks instead of taking out does. Shot a small 10 with the rifle my first day out this year and only saw one doe besides. Hunted 15 days and only saw 4 deer.

Good shooting. Where are you located, I have never heard as many people say they saw as few deer as they have this year. Is that everyone's future?

Our county is allowed 3 antlerless tags. Two counties away has a limit of 8! Going to take ny Dad there for the late antlerless season since that county should have more deer according to DNR setting their limit so high. If I get another I will just donate it.

Well at least this year you have tender vittles. Congrats. To help the deer herds we need to take as many coyotes out of the picture as possible to help save the fawns. Jmo

Congrats from a fellow Hoosier (NW). Those look like adult deer with big heads and the top one sure has a big neck! Same story up here, low deer numbers lately, although I got in on some draw hunts and have done pretty good.

Great shooting. Sorry to hear about the deer. Ours are still down here but nothing like that.

Southeastern Indiana deer numbers are terribly low here.

Congrats on the first kills with your SML.
Just a word of caution... your 56grain load of H4198 will probably show some temperature sensitivity (2 to 3 fps change per degree), but that won't matter if you get your shots nice and close like those two.
I'm in west-central IN (Putnam Co), and I've had an okay season. I've managed to kill 6 deer this fall (5 with bow, 1 with my .45 RemPac SML), but I think the deer numbers are slightly down. Now they want to legalize all rifles .243 and bigger!!?? I wish the DNR would flip the general Firearms season and the Muzzleloading season to keep the biggest part of the orange army out of the woods during the rut, and I hope they scrap the rifle idea.

As Indiana goes it seems Ohio follows later by a year or two. I will admit if they go to centerfire I will go that route except Ohio always has a muzzleloader season and will keep some just for that. I am talking .243s etc., already this year they have straight wall cartridges.
