The original plan was; Plan "A" Take the duck boat to the river and float down to the next boat "out". We had a touch of cold temps( -20*) that froze the entire area's water so duck/goose hunting from here on out will be on the river. The slush has gone away and it left 'bout 4 feet of shore ice, perfect . The plan was to float and jump geese/ducks and also to stop every mile or so and call coyotes down on to the ice and wack'm. Well this plan was trumped by our wonderful winds...
*New Plan . Plan "B" We will try some field goose hunting . Last week we checked out some "State" land that is in wheat stubble and the geese where using it heavily. There even a slight chance of finding a nice whitetail using it too. I'll have to take the 243 with me in the goose blind.
But Man I wanted to call coyotes.
Well we did a field hunt with 6 dozen goose decoys. It Rained, the wind blew as promised 45 mph , and JUST below freezing. Got set up well before sun up, hid our selves in a shallow ditch and managed to sit there till noon. Now last week the field we where in was covered in geese and had geese flying over the very spot we sat.
NOTHING!
Not even a tweedy bird flew by.
Loading up 6 dozen muddy decoys in a 40+ mph wind is not as fun as it sounds.
AND the game cart with 4 huge bundles decoys ,shells, and guns doesn't push as easy in the summer fallow once the permafrost come off...
The Flat tire on the truck looked very impressive too when we returned. How 'bout a plan "C"
MAN!
I sure wanted to shoot coyotes

You are tougher than I am but you may well be a lot younger also. Keep us posted about the next plan.
