Big buck down in illinois. I guided a friend from Arizona on his first whitetail. He put a perfect shoulder shot on him and dropped him in his tracks! The rem PAC out a smack down on him.

70 gr IMR 4198, 275 smooth formed MH. Shot was 100 yds in a bean field. He fell in a big ole pile of horns and deer! Passed this deer with my bow to save for one of the guys I was to be guiding.

So here is the story for every one. Lee flew in Thursday to hunt this weekend during our first firearm season. The buck we were after was this one in particular. On Friday I sat with him on both the morning and evening hunt. We shared a single man ladder stand both times. He, a larger man sat on the seat. I sat on about 3" of steel platform. We saw plenty of does but no shooters. Friday evening while we were waking out of the field I switched my keys from my zippered pocket to my jacket pocket. When I did this they fell out of my jacket pocket in the bean field! I walked all the way back to the stand looking for the keys. Couldn't find them! I was sick!! And figured trampling all over that field ruined our chances. Our neighbor was kind enough to drive us back to our camper that night where lee had his rental car. The next morning we were planning on hunting a tower blind on our north field. When we went to climb in lee could not lift his leg into the blind due to the small ladder and subsequently pulled a muscle in his leg trying to do so. We hobbled over to a ground blind I had set up on our south field. Me thinking the morning was shot, I was messing around on my phone when we got there. That's when 20 minutes later Lee handed me his 15x56 Swarovskis so I can see how well they work in low light. As soon as I looked in the field I saw two deer feeding!! I told lee, "damnit man these things work pretty good, there are two deer in the field over there". I watched them for a while when he finally picked up his head. It was him, the one. The buck everyone around there had been hunting all year. I told lee, "we have 10 minutes until legal shooting time". When the clock turned legal I put his primer in the gun, he locked on right behind the shoulder and the rest is history. He made a perfect shot. Dropped him in his tracks! After we tagged him we went on the hunt for my keys! Found them 20 yds from the edge of our bean field. Without me loosing my keys. And without lee screwing up his leg. We probably would have never killed that deer. If we had been able to get in the blind we would have never had a shot at this buck. I suppose the moral of the story is never give up. No matter what obstacles may be in your way.

I actually passed on this deer in October. Hardest thing I have ever had to do. Had him at 10 yards with my pin behind the shoulder. I manage the property for a friend and in turn get To hunt for free. Not a bad deal but I am under orders to let the big boys walk for the guys that pay.

Yep, He was a "shooter". Thanks for the pics & story. Good to see the old guys get a good score once in a while.
