Last Thursday I arrived home from work at 5pm suited up and grabbed my bow and drove to one of the farms I hunt,I was in my stand at 5:30.Hung my bow and quiver up an turned to my left and snapped a 1" branch of the tree to clear my shooting area some. Glassed the swamp to the south and observed no movement so I sat back to enjoy the peace and quiet. Looked to my left and a 8 pointer was coming up behind me,grabbed my crossbow and shot him. He went 30 yds. and died. That was the first 5 minutes. Gutted him and headed to the car to return home and get the tractor because the bean field was not harvested yet and the drag would be 700 yards without it. Returned about 6:25 pm and loaded the the deer in the bucket and started for home when I noticed the front tire was flat. Made my way to the barns by skidding the bucket on the ground and had the farmer take myself and the deer to my house. Filled the air tank and had my wife drive back to the tractor, couldn't get the tire to seat and ran out of air, drove home and filled the air tank again and returned to the farm,I then found the cut in the tire. Made the round trip home and back one more time and removed the tire to get patched the next day. Returned home and got the deer hung up and it was 10pm.Fastest hunt kind of.

Nice job! Do you think the deer heard that limb snap and thought there was some action to be had? I have several times had this happen during the rut--including a 150 class 12 pointer in 07 that came in after I broke off a couple limbs.

Pretty sure he heard the limb snap and there was a large scrape 30 yards to the south of me.Years ago I was clearing a shooting lane in a willow swamp and making all kinds of racket and I turned around and a nice buck was looking at me checking out his new trail.
