Since I live in an almost exclusively archery only zone where I live and considering that we have quite large deer, my concentration has been on crossbows. I've primarily used compounds xbows since I thought the Excalibers were large, noisy, slow, cumbersome , etc. The Matrix line(310,330,355,380,405) changed nearly all of my prejudices concerning recurve xbows. My M 380 is now shooting a 401g arrow 365'/sec, which is fine(18" Zombie, Blazers, AL inserts, plastic moon nocks,170g FOC broadhead. I am honestly getting 1 - 1 1/2" 3-shot groups @ 80-100 yds, shorter ranges tighter. Lazer 3 Pros at 20" and set up the same are even a little tighter!
I also have a SZ 380 shooting 430g L-3 Pros, 22" set up the same. It will get 3 - 3 1/2" 100 yd groups but has to be resighted in every week or 2. It's not the scope. The Matrix just stays on target. Recurves need no dealer support, have an excellent reliability record, and are generally much more accurate than compounds.
I've done mine like a customized rifle : hand crafted wooden stock(thumb hole , light weight walnut - lightens and quietens the xbow), custom made arrows, custom string/silencers(Boo string), HHA Optimizer with lighted Zeiss Duralyt 2-8 scope, Trigger Tech 2.5# dual stage trigger. The bow is actually quieter now than the very quiet SZ 380.
If I were wanting a compound, I'd consider the excellent Bow Tech Solution 350 or 380 or one of the Mission crossbows(don't need dealer support). There are other excellent xbows out there also. However, for the ultimate long range accuracy champ, IMO, is the M 380(the other Matrix xbows are reported to be as accurate).
This is just a typical 80 yard group with the Matrix380. Aim points were the 3 horizontal black circles. Even @ 100 yds it is not a good idea to shoot multiple arrows at the same point.
