World class prairie dog hunting in our own back yard! We hit the field Saturday hoping to call coyotes but after one set the wind came up and stopped us. 'Cinch we where in the area we stopped by "The dog colony" and did some blasting. My buddy and I each shot about 75 shells and maybe hit at a 20%. In our defense... The wind was 15 mph sideways and the dogs only allowed shot at 200 yards and beyond. Still great fun. I do not know how many prairie dog inhabit the town but conservatively I'm sure it's in the 100,000's. In what we thought may be the middle ,when we look through the 12X binos there are still dogs on the horizon in any direction... Disclaimer: This one is in a 300 foot deep ancient river basin , a very tuff climb back out, hence the reason a million dogs and NO other hunters...No other indications on it's location.

Can I come over? If I leave now, I can be there in 48 hrs.
Seriously, that is some awesome landscape. You can push the limits out there....with any gun.
I appreciate the honesty on the kill ratio. Been there many times shooting woodchucks around here. With a 243 capable of very good accuracy I would say 200 yds and under.....90-95% no matter the wind.
200-300 - 80% no wind and under 50% with wind
Over 300 yds and wind......tough to connect on the first shot. When isn't there some wind??? God bless the super snipers who take it all in and make that calculated head shot on the jihads at 1 mile. Not me.

I real world shooting out in the field a 20/30% on a two inch target is nothing to be ashamed of. Off a bench in a kind of controlled range , maybe not. An elk or even a deer you have 3 to 4 times as big a target. We practice with clay pidgins at varied distances from 250 to 400 yards, shooting off our sticks/bipods or back packs...NOW that fun.
