Summertime Tactics for calling coyotes. I know I know ... But WE shoot'm all year round.!!! Do you have any specific tactics you use in the summer for calling? As you know Up here sunup comes very early and sunset is really late. The hour before up is very good and the end after down can be great too. I'm not a big fan of night shooting because of the turmoil it makes. We ALWAYS get a visit for the county Mounty when we spot light, not that it's illegal but...You know nosy bystanders. The New thermal view stuff looks like it may take a LOT of that away. Anyway we do a lot of combo calling in the summer. There are several lakes that we walleye fish that have vast amounts of BOR land around them. A lot of times we will get on the water in the AM dark and will slip along the shore and spot till sun up and then call till we think we should be fishing. Fish all day and in the evening we turn back to calling and use the lights back to camp. LOOOONG day but there has been days when we get a boat limit of 'eyes and several coyotes. NOW WE'RE TALKEN One of my favorite ways to call in the summer.

Slugger--I don't hunt them in summer but a fellow that is a Government hunter/trapper told me that if you locate the den site---howling just at dusk that you can use the territorial nature of the dogs to kill them the next evening by getting closer to the den site and challenge howling. He also mentioned using a decoy dog and has had the coyotes chase the dog right into his lap being so intent on killing it. He said Coyotes are suckers for any threat during pup rearing and will come to run other dogs off even more fiercely than during breeding season.
